Vehicle Detail
This is a beautiful and exhilarating spider! I bought it from a lady in Louisville about 7 years ago. Her sister bought it new and had it in California for the first 30 years of its life. I think this is the pinnacle of Alfa spiders: It’s the last year of the much sought roundtail coupled with the original high-revving 1750 engine. This was the last design by the legendary Battista Pinninfarina, and it has been lovingly kept in near original condition. All mechanicals have been professionally maintained by renowned Alfa mechanic Mike Besic. The advice I got when I was looking for an Alfa was: “Buy the best car you can afford, and make sure the body is in good condition – mechanicals can be easily fixed, but a rusty body is a rotten job.” I have not been disappointed, and I’ve improved both the body and mechanicals. With kids in college, it’s time for me to pass the torch to someone else… The Good · Beautiful exterior: body has no rust, dings, chips or dents; recent professional buffing; new emblems, tail lenses, polished bumpers – car never sees rain or snow, and is stored in winter · Interior in very good condition: new door panels; wooden Personal steering wheel; all gauges and switches work; black carpeting · High-revving 1750 engine; totally re-built less than 2000 miles ago ($6300) – runs beautifully · Recent starter, re-cored radiator, clutch and brake master cyl., exhaust system · All mechanical work done by Besic Motorsports · Two Tonneau tops (one covers entire cockpit) · 3rd owner; first 30 yrs. spent in CA · Orig. manual; Cardisc; 25 yrs. of repair and refurb. documentation The Not-so-Good · Rear suspension needs new bushings (~$400 to have done) · Headlight trim rings and rear deck straps have slight chrome pitting · Cracked dash has cover (installed by previous owner) · Driver’s seat bottom has a tear along the seam (can be re-stitched) · 2nd gear sychro is a little weak; shifts smoothly if you pause at neutral; hasn’t degraded any in past 7 years · Previous owner put in a Radio Shack radio · Odometer stopped about 4000 miles and 5 years ago (shows 127k) · Original windshield with no cracks but slight pitting This car is quick and nimble, and it’s an absolute joy to drive – you won’t stop grinning! Please let me know if you have any questions, and happy bidding! On May-16-11 at 15:50:08 PDT, seller added the following information: 5/16/11: ADDED LAST TWO PICTURES TO SHOW CONDITION OF PAINT: 1ST ONE IS IN BRIGHT SUNSHINE - SHOWS VERY LIGHT SWIRL IN SUN'S REFLECTION; SECOND PIC IS IN GARAGE - SHOWS CLEAR, DEEP REFLECTION OF OUTSIDE OBJECTS. HOPE THIS HELPS.
