Vehicle Detail
I purchased this 1976 Verona 2002 in 1999 with 64,000 miles - at the time the paint was already faded and the interior was a bit rough but the body was quite solid. I used as daily driver for a year and a half, racking up another 30,000 miles, then in summer 2000 I set her up for track use. Between track events and driving to/from east coast tracks, I added 14,000 more miles between summer 2000 and winter 2004, then I put her away and forgot her in the barn (dirt floor w/plastic sheet underneath) where she sat until this past weekend. Current condition is visually rough with surface rust in rain gutters, rockers, trunk wells, a bit below rear side windows and where fender lips were cut and rolled - and she has paint rash on left rear quarter from a tire wall I kissed at lime rock (not bent, just scrapes). Interior doors/windows all work, dash has no cracks but door panels and carpet are rough - rear seats are removed (not in my possession). Shock towers are still solid as are most body panels. Underneath there is a 2-3 inch rust perforation on the bottom surface of the driver side frame rail. Last weekend I removed the plugs, put in some light oil to make sure the rings were not frozen, fresh gas and a new battery and she fired right up after 6 years sitting. I had to clean and unstuck r/f brake caliper but then I drove her around for a few miles and she still snarls and breathes fire. The tack is inop (can't remember if this is old or new issue) but I know I had it working on the track after I put the 5 speed in. This car is still fun and fast and drivable but obviously should be thoroughly checked for safety, dry rotted ball joints, rusty parts, etc, and new fluids (including brake flush) before driving for real. I imagine it may be solid enough with a bit of work to get back on the track or simply harvest the tons of goodies I put in - I am selling "as is" - you are welcome to come see her in western NJ before bidding. Goodies I put in the car 10 years ago: - Rebuilt motor with Schrick 292, Stahl header, 9.5:1 Mahle pistons, lightened flywheel, 535is clutch, MSD ignition, Dual Weber DCOE45, electric fuel pump - 320i 5-speed conversion and 3.9:1 LSD - Close ratio steering box - Bilstein sports, sway bars, bushings - Front brake upgrade (volvo 240 4-piston calipers w/Ate power-discs and repco metalmaster pads) - aardvarc - Rear brake upgrade (vw sirroco/golf single piston caliper/disc with e-brake hookup) - aardvarc - Stainless steel brake lines - Rear battery brace/mount between shock towers - 2 320i front recaro seats and 4-spoke racing steering wheel - 8 bottlecap rims with front and rear wheel spacers - Fenders cut and rolled for clearance - Bumpers removed (not in my possession) - Roll bar taken out of 320i - 4 point harnesses - straight pipe exhaust w/ansa muffler Other NOS aftermarket goodies never installed included: - new ground control coil-over front suspension with fully adjustable plates - new eibach lowered front and rear springs - new full set of front and rear polyurethane bushings - new fiberglass fender flares Also included: - center console parts - 6 of 8 side moldings - 8 kumho track tires (50% used) and set of Hoosiers (new) - 10years old w/no visible rot but caveat emptor On May-11-11 at 18:46:14 PDT, seller added the following information: ************* UPDATE - LISTING ABOVE IS INCORRECT REGARDING STEERING BOX ************* A question from a watcher on the steering box prompted me to research the serial number - AND I WAS MISTAKEN ABOUT CR BOX - ZF serial number ends in 171 (despite swapping out my box with this one for some now elusive reason) so it is just a regular box - in hindsight, i was either misinformed or it might have been some red paint on the top of the steering box - I convinced myself it was close ratio after swapping it because the turning effort got harder but duhh i also changed the steering wheel at the same time to smaller diameter - confirmed now with lock to lock test at 3+ turns ANYONE WHO HAS BID AND WANTS OUT WILL GET NO ARGUMENT FROM ME - SORRY ABOUT THIS MISTAKE!!!!! I am pretty sure about the 5-speed ;-)
