2009 BMW R 1200 GS "SPECIAL EDITION" 2,507 miles "Like New" Condition NO RESERVE! - WARRANTY: I ordered this “Special Edition” BMW GS in 2009, paid $18,900 for it (before taxes) and took delivery on August 11, 2009. I followed the manufacturer’s recommended parameters during the initial “running in”” period (page 79 in the owner’s manual) and had the recommended periodic maintenance performed by BMW technicians at Pikes Peak Motorsports including the annual BMW service on March 8th, 2011 (new Engine Oil & Filter, Transmission Fluid, Final Gear Oil, Brake Fluids, plus battery & safety checks). You are welcome to call Larry or Dan in Service if you have any questions. The 3-year, 36,000-mile warranty is current and valid until August 10, 2012 (or 32,443 more miles). - CARE/CONDITION: Since I took delivery, this bike has spent most of its life in the comfort of my garage. It has never been off road and has never spent a night outside in the elements. This bike has never been crashed, never been down; there are no dents, dings, scratches, scrapes or scuffs except for the typical small scratches/scuffs on the aluminum cases from normal use. My dealer warned me the aluminum cases would start developing this “patina” from day-1 just by removing them from the cardboard box they were shipped in; he was right. They’re not designed to be pretty; they are designed to be waterproof, durable and functional AND (I’m told from a rider who lived to tell the tale) they can protect vital parts of the rider and the bike if you do crash. - SPECIAL EDITION++: This bike was 1 of only 500 built and 1 of only 140 imported to the United States. These bikes, recognized by their distinctive Alpine White paint job, black cross-spoke wheels, GS Adventure seat and GS Adventure black “beak” were built to commemorate the 500,000th 4-valve GS that came off the assembly line May 12th, 2009. I enhanced the functionality of the bike by adding the GS Adventure Windshield, GS Adventure Side Wings and GS Adventure Aluminum Cases plus many other carefully selected accessories (see list below) totaling more than $5,500 in just parts alone. - ENHANCEMENTS: It has been extensively outfitted for safety & visibility (PIAA Cross Country HID & PIAA 510 ATP auxiliary driving lights, LED turn signals, LED side blinkers, LED side running lights, LED rear flashing brake lights, plus LED brake & signal lights integrated into the aluminum cases), protection (engine guards, large skid plate, many other protective guards) and long-distance touring (GS Adventure windshield + wind wings, aluminum cases, tank bag, cruise control, passenger backrest). - WHY AM I SELLING: Job and family commitments have limited the time I can devote to riding. This bike is ready to circle the world but I barely have time to circle the neighborhood; it really needs a more dedicated rider. So it’s time to turn this “Overland Traveler,” this “Swiss-Army Knife of Motorcycles,” on to a new owner who can give it the love and attention it deserves. - A UNIQUE RIDE: If you’re looking for a base model R 1200 GS, you can find a used one much cheaper, but you won’t find it in Alpine White with black cross-spoke wheels, GS Adventure seat and black “beak”. These are unique characteristics of the 2009 R 1200 GS “Special Edition”. This one in particular is even more unique because of all the safety/visibility features and the added wind protection provided by the Adventure windshield and wings, but without the Adventure’s bloated, bulbous tank, which I’m told, can present a real center-of-gravity challenge for most riders especially when maneuvering at slower speeds. - WARNING! If you end up winning this bike you’ll have to put up with lots of staring, adoring motorcyclists and tourists, who will ask you lots of questions about it. But that’s not all bad especially if you like meeting new, friendly people everywhere you go. If you don’t like attention, please don’t bid on this bike. - NO RESERVE: There is NO RESERVE on this auction; so even 1 lone bidder (that could be you) has a chance to win this world-class, one-of-a-kind machine for an extraordinarily low price considering there is over $24,500 invested. - QUESTIONS: If there are any questions I can answer please don’t hesitate to e-mail me. However, during the week I will not be able to get back to you until I get off work (about 5:30 MDT). Until then…Good Luck if you decide to bid! - SHIPPING/DELIVERY: I will go out of my way to get the bike to you whether you choose to pick it up yourself or have it shipped. I would be happy to pick you up at the airport if you choose to fly in and ride away, or if you decide to ship it, I will work with your shipper to turn over the bike, even deliver it to a convenient location within the local area (e.g., Pikes Peak Motor Sports, just off the freeway in Colorado Springs). However, all the funds must clear before the bike is released. - PAYMENT: I would like $500 sent via PayPal or an overnight check within 48 hours of the winning bid. Next I would like the balance paid within 10 days of the winning bid via wire transfer, cashier’s check, even a personal check is O.K. as long as you don’t mind waiting for my bank to clear the funds. No cash please. - SORRY, NO TEST RIDES: Due to liability/insurance concerns, I regret I will not be able to allow anyone to test ride this bike under any circumstances. If you are local and want to come see it I would be happy to show it to you. Remember, it is still under warranty until August 10, 2012 (or 36,000 miles) so if you have any complaints (you won’t) your local BMW service center will be happy to help you. - LIST OF ACCESSORIES (over $5,500): -- BMW R 1200 GS Adventure Windshield (better protection/less turbulence) -- BMW R 1200 GS Adventure Side Wings (reduces fatigue on shoulders/sides) -- BMW R 1200 GS Adventure Aluminum Cases (mega storage) -- BMW R 1200 GS Small Tank Bag (storage and clear map case) -- BMW R 1200 GS Adventure Foot Pegs (stand up with confidence) -- BMW R 1200 GS Extended Brake Pedal (brake while standing) -- BMW R 1200 GS Large Aluminum Skid Plate (protects engine + exhaust) -- PIAA Cross Country HID Driving Lights (see far away and be seen) -- PIAA 510 ATP Driving Lights (see all around you and be seen) -- Techmount GS Light Bar (holds the dual sets of PIAAs) -- Metzler Tourance Tires (80/20 mix of road + trail) -- Cee Bailey Plexiglass Headlight Cover (protects expensive headlight) -- Hepco-Becker Engine Guards (protects expensive cylinders covers and more) -- Wunderlich Side Stand Enlarger (guards against tip-over on soft ground) -- Touratech Fuel Line Guards (protection) -- Touratech Throttle Potentiometer Guard (protection) -- Touratech ABS Sensor Guard (protection) -- Touratech Brake Fluid Reservoir Guard Front (protection) -- Touratech Brake Fluid Reservoir Guard Rear (protection) -- Touratech Clutch Reservoir Guard (protection) -- Touratech Kardan Drive Shaft Crash Bung (protects drive shaft from damage) -- Touratech Swingarm Pivot Cover (covers exposed bolts) -- Kaoko Throttle Lock Cruise Control (makes highway cruising easier) -- Pirates Lair Stealth Passenger Backrest (your passenger will love you) -- Excel Exhaust Pipe Extension (draws exhaust heat away from aluminum case) -- Stainless Steel Mesh Oil Cooler Guard (protects oil cooler from stones) -- Stainless Steel Mesh Frame Protectors (protects frame from boots) -- Maier Rear Splash Guard (keeps rear tire crud off suspension + battery) -- Custom Dynamics Voltage Indicator (color shows battery health) -- Stebel Magnum Horn (make yourself heard) -- Powerlet Auxiliary Power 12V Outlet (for your extra electronics) -- Eurotech Motorsports LED Turn Signal Modules (brighter, less amp draw) -- Hyperlite 16-LED Auxiliary Side Turn Signals (warns drivers beside you) -- Hyperlite 8-LED Side Running Lights (be seen from the side) -- Hyperlite 16-LED Brake & Signal Lights integrated into Cases (wider visibility) -- Lite Blazer 32-LED License Plate Flashing Brake Lights (warns drivers) - DELIVERED OPTIONS: -- Integral ABS II (may save your life some day) -- On Board Computer (everything you need to know and more) -- Heat Grips (2 temps – reduces stress/fatigue on cold days) -- Hand Protectors (protects hands from debris and wind) -- (ESA) Electronic Suspension Adjust (choose suspension for ride) - SPECIFICATIONS: -- Engine: 1,170 cc, 2-cyclinder boxer, air/oil cooled -- Bore/Stroke: 101 x 73 mm -- Compression: 12.0:1 -- Power: 105 hp @ 7,500 rpm -- Torque: 85 ft-lbf @ 5,750 rpm -- Transmission: 6-speed, shaft drive -- Suspension Front: BMW Telelever -- Suspension Rear: BMW Paralever -- Electronic Suspension Adjust (ESA) -- Brakes Front: Twin Floating 305 mm discs, 4-piston fixed caliper -- Brakes Rear: Single 265 mm disc, 2-pistion floating calipers -- Automatic Braking System (ABS) -- Tires Front: 110/80 VR 19 -- Tires Rear: 150/70 VR 17 -- Rims: Black Cross-Spoke, Tubeless Wheels -- Wheelbase: 59.3 in -- Dimensions: Length 87 in, Width 36.8 in, Height 57 in -- Weight: 450 lbs. -- Fuel Capacity: 5.3 Gallons -- MPG: 50+
