Vehicle Detail
Vehicle was purchased (on Ebay) in September 2007 for $13K from the original owner in Nebraska. It was shipped to NY with 27,000 miles on it at that time. Vehicle is now located in the Bronx, NY and had been driven in the NY area during this time. It currently has 80,144 miles on it. I am only the second owner of this vehicle. You are welcome to come by inspect and drive the vehicle. Both the interior and exterior are in great condition. I get compliments and questions everywhere I go. In addition to regular maintenance, I've added over $2K in updgrades/accessories, including Yakima roof racks, 2" trailer hitch, 3 mud flaps (came with only 1 on front driver side), AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo, 15" x 7" rims, Michelin Hydro Edge tires. Rims and tires have only 4K on them. These tires are rated for 80K. The handling with these new, wider tires is exceptional. No "tippy" feeling. Can take off/on ramps at speed. More stable in wind. Comes with original 14" x 5.5" rims & tires as well (if you prefer the classic look). In addition to the 4 extra rims & tires, the vehicle comes with a bunch of other extras including 10 oil filters, 3 air filters, 2 fan belts, 1 oxygen sensor, 2 sets of winshied wipers, factory repair manuals. All of which are included in the photos. Radiator & battery are new. Although interior and exterior look great, the vehicle is 27 years old and has some minor blemishes. Original paint is faded, smudged or scratched in places, although nothing is obvious and there are no dents. Windshield on passenger side has a long verticle crack. There are miniscule spots of surface rust that you have to look real hard to see. The back hatchback is slightly discolored from this past winter driving season. The washer fluid light stays on (since I got it). The trip counter stopped working about a year ago or so. There is a small tear in the interior wall panel just in back of the sliding door. It's about 2-3 inches long and hardly noticeable. There is a semi-circle brown stain on the biege ceiling where I stored my beach hat upside down with bungee cords. The carpet in worn. But as you can see from the photos, the overall appearance is great. It's fun to drive, easy to park and coverts into a bedroom in about 2 minutes (put up front privacy curtain and drop rear bench into bed). The canvas poptop is mint and the top bunk has only been slept in 2-3 times. Only had to change a tire once - the original jack works great. I never used the fridge, stove or sink except as storage areas. They look brand new but I don't know if they function. This vehicle has alot of storage, cubby-holes and a small closet where you can hang a few items. The metal bar you push up which is part of the pop top frame is great for hanging bigger items likes coats, wetsuits, etc. But these items have to be removed before you open the pop top. The problem is the engine. I blew the original engine shortlly after I put the tires on (August 2010). A rebuilt engine was installed in late September 2010 (over $5k for engine, shipping, installation & new parts), but the engine and/or the installation never seemed to be quite right. The engine does not sound good, the oil is black (after numerous changes and only 4K miles) and I think it needs to be swapped out AGAIN! I just don't want to put anymore time or $ into this vehicle. The rebuilt engine has an existing 12month/12K mile that runs to September 2011. However, I don't know if it will be honored and I can't be bothered with the shipping expenses, etc. I'm thinking (and have been told) it needs a new engine and an oil cooler (on its own radiator). This is probably about a $5-6K investment (assuming the warranty is NOT honored - much less if it is). To really do it up right, a conversion to the later model cooling system is the way to go. That's about another $2K. Had I known/realized these upgrades (oil cooler & upgraded cooling system) were needed I would have done them when I swapped out the engine in September and would still be driving my "magic bus". The condition of the vehicle makes these investments worthwhile. Get a good vanagon mechanic to do the engine swap and upgrades, and you can be on the road in the next couple of months with years of pleasure to come out of this beautiful, solid vehicle. Vehicle is sold as-is. Buyer pays shipping costs. Minimum $500 initial payment/deposit due via Paypal within 48 hours after close of auction. Transfer of vehicle/title/rigistration, etc. when total payment is received & verifies On Apr-19-11 at 21:31:49 PDT, seller added the following information: Please note that an Ebay member has contacted me. From viewing the photo of the odometer, they think it has turned and the vehicle has 180K on it (not 80K). If that is the case, I was not aware of this and was tricked when I purchased the vehicle 3 +years ago with what I thought was 26K on it (may have been 126K?). I don't know. I am not a car/vanagon/odometer specialist. I do know that I purchased the vehicle in 2007 and the odometer read 26K. If numbers were cocked or misaligned, I did not notice it. The vehicle looked new at the time. It still looks new. I have put 54K on the vehicle since I owned it and loved every mile of it. Interested parties (and those that have already bid) should take this into consideration. I am not an Ebay expert either. But if the current bidder bid assuming 80K and now it may be 180K and they want to withdraw their bid, there is probably a way to do that but I am not sure whet the process is. All interested parties and/or future bidders should take this member's observation into consideration.
