The 1974 Volkswagen Type 181 was known as the "Kurierwagon" in its homeland or as the "Trekker" in the UK. In Mexico they called it the "Safari" but here in the states we just called it "The Thing". Due to DOT regulations and classifications the US run for the Thing was only three years ending with the 74. Built with the rear engine platform of the Type 1 this vehicle is powered with the 1600 dual port and four speed manual transmission. Weighing in at only 2000 pounds with its four cylinder drive train it is a fuel efficient and versitile little car. A predesesor of todays modern SUV. This car was nicely restored in Indiana before making its way to S. Florida to become a condo car. Very clean and solid car that drives beautifully. Everything works except the windshield washers.
