Vehicle Detail

1956 Chevrolet Bel Air. 4 Door Sedan. V-8 265 ci. engine. Two speed automatic “Power Glide” transmission. Two tone green (Upper body = Sherwood green. Lower Body = Pinecrest green). This vehicle is being sold as a “project” car with no implied warranty. The car has not been started in over 10 years but did run strong and reliably before it was parked in a garage and covered. Buyer would be responsible for towing the vehicle. The brake system would need to be looked at before the car could be moved out of the garage. Again, this would be the buyer’s responsibility. I purchased the vehicle in 09/91 from a guy in Braintree, Massachusetts. He bought it from a family member of the original owner. The odometer reading was 52,633 miles when I took ownership and the odometer currently reads 55,370 (drove it approx. 3,700 miles in the last 20 years). I was told the 52K were original miles. I do have some interesting paperwork that came with the vehicle including a 1000 miles coupon from the dealership in Connecticut where the car was purchased on July 11, 1956. I have a key that has a number stamped on it. It is the same key number listed on the coupon. The leather key chain has the dealership name on it. All indications are this is the original key that came with car (see photo). The VIN number and engine number are also on the coupon and match the car. This vehicle would need to be gone through completely. Nothing has been done to it since 1999 but it is a very solid car. Pre – 1999 I needed to replace the radiator, gas tank, water pump. I had some exhaust work done, bought new tires, had the engine completely tuned up, etc. I have all the receipts for things that were purchased for / and all repairs done to the car. All four doors close like the car is brand new/ very tight. The trunk is in excellent condition (a bit of surface rust under the rubber mat) and the interior looks all original. Some of the exterior has been repainted (before I bought it). The paint has peeled away in many places but all the panels are solid with minimal surface rust in a few places. There are some small dents on the front panels. Some minor body work and a new paint job and this car would look great. The driver side rear window has a small crack on the bottom but does not affect how the window opens and closes. As I mentioned before the vehicle has been sitting dormant for over 10 years. The engine and transmission would need to be brought back to life but the car did run fine before I put her away. And, again, the brakes need some attention. These cars are a time capsule of a different time and place in America. My hope is that someone will make her shine again. This would be an excellent restoration project for the right person. Note: The title for the car is from North Carolina. I lived there for many years in the 90’s. I brought the car with me. When I moved back to Massachusetts I never re-registered the car in Massachusetts.
