I am selling my 1979 Mercedes 300sd diesel sedan. I love the car, but with the arrival of my 2nd child I just dont have the time to tinker, and i really need something bigger. A few of the positives of the car- Engine runs very strong, even during the dead of winter it started in the mornings on the first try without a block heater. All lights and signals work fine- just had many of the contacts cleaned for turn signals headlights etc. Interior is in better than average condition. Inspection good in NJ until next year, passed with flying colors with god brakes, lights, suspension etc only a few thousand miles ago. Tires I would guess are at about 60-70% Shifts just fine, and turbo works great! I have no problems cruising at 75 mph on the highway and pickup is much better than expected for a car this heavy. A few of the negatives- I will try to be as honest as possible but keep in mind this a 32 year old daily driver so dont expect showroom! As far as rust goes, it is way better than most old MB's on the road, but there are a few minor spots that are visible up close. Frame and wheel wells are just fine. If I were to keep the car, I would most likely change the rubber seals around the windows, they are mostly cracked. Air conditioner does not work- this really stinks because I paid $600 last summer for a new complete system and 2 months later the compressor seized. The heat works ok, although lately the blower isnt working- you can feel the heat its just not blasting like it used to. The vacuum system does not work- that means the automatic locks do not work, you have to open each door individually. Rear drivers power window does not work- this is just a button problem, I believe the motor is fine. The rear deck looks a little ratty, just cosmetic but would look better if changed I have recieved many compliments while driving this car, it still runs strong and looks regal- with 196,500 miles these MB's 5 cylinder Diesels are known to last well over 500,000 miles.
