Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is my 1968 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 hardtop. I have owned this car since 1988 and it has been in dry storage since then. I bought this car to restore, but I’ve got too many irons and not enough fire, so it remains in the condition it was when I bought it, except for the fresh layer of barn dust. This 442 has less than 65,000 original miles. It was originally equipped with a 400/manual, but the original engine and transmission were replaced by a previous owner with a 1970 Olds 350 (#6 heads) and a Turbomatic 350. The dual-snorkel air cleaner is also missing, but it still has the original air scoops, red inner fenders, and one of the air hose clamps. It has an original scarlet red exterior, black interior with bucket seats and console, a wood grain steering wheel, Tic-Toc gauges, AM radio, a black vinyl roof, and of course the W-30 package. I could never find a build sheet in the car. Yes, it is a REAL 442, the VIN is 344878M166xxx. The pictures show it in more detail, but the frame is solid with heavy surface rust, but not crunchy. The body seems solid too, with only localized areas of rust. For example, in the shredded vinyl in the sail panel area of the roof there is a hole about the size of a pencil with solid metal all around. There's another slightly bigger hole in the trunk floor under the spare, but again decent metal all around. I'm no body man, but I always thought the body would be salvageable without replacing much, if anything. Of course the bumpers need straightened and re-chromed, and the rear has a silly home-made trailer hitch tack-welded to it. Just last year as I was moving the car I noticed someone had cut a hole in the right inner fender, presumably to access the blower motor. It looks like someone took an axe to the original 4-speed console and cut the front part off. The rear part, complete with the console door, is still there. The interior is complete, but thrashed. It has a working AM radio, unbroken glove box lid, and cigarette lighter. The tic-tac gauges work, but the clock does not. It has a Olds 12-bolt rear end, but I don’t know the axle ratio. When I bought the car back in 1988, I tried to find the original engine and transmission by tracing it back through the previous owners. I got back to about 1975 and the trail went cold. I have collected a bunch of parts over the years, and I will sell those separately after the car sells. I have a NOS grill and front 442 emblem, a pair of NOS tail light bezels, a set of used tail light lenses and bezels, a 7028251 carburetor, a set of five 14"x6" rally II wheels, a good 4-speed console, a Hurst 442 shifter and linkage, a Y (right) exhaust manifold, an original manifold hot air tube, a very nice original Olds service manual, a body manual, and some other stuff I can't recall right now. Let me know if you need more info. You're welcome to look at it, by appointment only. This is a non-AC car. It hasn't run in probably 15 years, it ran ok then, but I would not consider it drivable as is. Obviously, there is no warranty and it is being sold as is. The winning bidder must send a nonrefundable $500 deposit within 48 hours of the auction’s close. The remainder is to be paid by cashier’s check within seven days.
