You are bidding on a REAL California Born and Bred 1968 Chevrolet SS 396 El Camino. This El Camino is a REAL DEAL SS396 truck with its 138 body code. This Muscle Truck was built in the General Motors Fremont, California assembly plant and has been in Southern and Central California most all of its life. While originally powered by a Big Block 396 engine, the original 396 is long gone and it now has a mildly built 350 engine with an 010 block and a Turbo-Hydramatic 350 automatic transmission. The car does still have a 12 bolt open differential underneath it. This SS 396 El Camino is an original Ash Gold Metallic exterior paint (code G2) car but has been repainted the Matador Red color you see on the car now. It has a Black Bench Seat (Code 765) interior that is actually very clean. The car while a fairly solid always California car; is not without it's flaws. The car has some minor rust spots on several areas to include the lower rear left door corner, lower right door corner, one spot beneath the rear window and a couple of spots on the inside bottom of the tail gate. These rusted areas are in fairly common spots and minor in terms of rust repair. These areas will make for a relatively simple fix. The car has no rot underneath and has no structural issues at all. The floor pans are very nice on the car as is the bed floor. The frame is in excellent shape on this SS car!! Ths chassis is a good, dry, clean, California Chassis!! This car is an excellent driver!! The performance built 350 in it is very strong and has a mild cam with an Edelbrock Aluminum Intake and Holley Carburetor. I found a Comp Cams cam card and a receipt for a 2200 stall converter in the paperwork I got with the car. The car has a slight lope in the idle; it runs well and is very responsive. The car has a nice set of Headers and a complete Flowmaster exhaust system to the rear bumper giving the El Camino a very healthy sound without being too obtrusive. The Turbo 350 Transmission shifts cleanly and transmits the the small block's power back to the 12 Bolt rear end. The car has power steering and old school manual drum brakes. Car rides on 14x7 inch Chevrolet SS Ralley Wheels with a set of decent radials on it to put the El Camino's power to the pavement. The car looks to have had AC at one time but all of the components are now gone. Needs a wiper motor as well. No radio or antennae. The Matador Red paint on the car does not appear to be that old and still has good sheen to it. It actually looks pretty good in pictures and is a presentable 10-20 footer!! But in reality the car is going to need paint!! It looks as though it had a bare metal re-paint and somebody did not prep it well as the paint is cracking in multiple areas. It looks good driving by, but when you get close the sins in the paint work become very apparent. The Black Bench Seat Interior is very decent and is a nice serviceable interior. The Seats, carpet, door panels, dash and head liner are all in great shape in the car. The Chrome and Bright trim on the car is decent and generally presentable for a driver. The car is missing several moldings and trim parts to include front and rear window stainless and misc other pieces. Everything that is missing is readily available. Cowl Tag on fire wall reads as follows: 03C 147779 430086 ST 68 - 13880 BF10590 Body TR 765 B90 G2 Paint The best thing about a car like this is that even though it needs a restoration; it is not a basket case like most affordable project SS 396 El Camino's you see listed. This car runs and drives fantastic and is a DRY California El Camino SS 396!! This car is a cool weekend Home Depot truck just the way it is! While everyone else is home fix-it shopping in their generic plastic new style pick up's and SUV's you roll into the Depot sporting this SS396 Muscle Truck to grab some mulch!! This truck can haul more than mulch too with just a blip of the throttle!! You can drive this car and enjoy it while you perform the different weekend upgrade projects on the car to get it to your level of 'done'. This is a super solid, running, driving 1968 SS396 El Camino now with a mildly built small block 350 engine that runs out strong and cool!! Please ask any questions before you bid.
