Vehicle Detail
1953 Chevrolet Bel Air Hardtop - For Sale or Possible Trade Running Gear: Older crate SBC 350 (Edelbrock Intake and Holley 600 CFM 4 Barrel) and 350 Auto. Stock re-cored radiator. Mustang gas tank located in trunk floor. Chassis: Mustang II weld-in independent front suspension with tubular A arms, dropped spindles and air bags. Custom 4 link rear suspension with air bags mounted over a Chevy S-10 rear end. The rear frame has been step notched. Non power (dual res.) brakes, front disc and drum rear. Steering is non power rack and pinion with the stock column having been modified to work with the MII. The air ride system is operated by a motor driven compressor, two tanks, 4 fast valves and a 7 way switch box. A backup electric pump is mounted in the trunk. Electrical: 12 Volt system using an expandable aftermarket harness. Currently runs the basics like lights and ignition. Aftermarket oil and temp gauges currenly used. Body: The top has been chopped several inches and the stock rear window sunk into the trunk area (needs trim fabricated to fill small gap). The front windshield has been cut down to fit the chop. Most of the body has been shaved except for some of the trim areas around the windows so that the trim can be fitted back on the car. The tail lights are 54 Chevy, the grill is from a Desoto (not shown, modified to work with stock '53 grill lights) and the headlights and rear fenders are also custom. The car is currently in filler primer because I am still working with the body. The car is pretty solid, with no rust that I have been able to find. There is some filler in the driver side door and where the body has been modified (ie: the chop, rear fenders, shaved areas, but that is to be expected). The side windows will need to be finished and I have most, if not all of the framing and trim. The driver side framing has been cut down already and rough fitted, but the passenger side has not been touched. Interior: The interior is pretty basic. The front seat has been chopped down to sit lower in the car. It will need new foam and covering. There is no rear seat in the car currently. I have the upper cushion, but not the lower. The rear area has been fitted with carpeted MDF for the time being. The bottom cushion of the rear seat will need to be modified to work with the rear 4 link travel. The door panels are just backing board. There is new carpet in the front, but the rear portion of the kit didn't fit correctly. The gauges have all been removed because they were 6volt (I do have all of the parts for the dash, they are just not in the photos as I was pulling it apart to paint it.). Most of the cab interior sheet metal has been treated with POR and sound mat. The car is obviously still in the project state, but runs well and drives just fine. I drive it often in it's current condition and it gets a TON of positive attention. It's a great start and a lot of the hard stuff has already been completed. I do have a good amount of trim for the car, but not all of it. I also have the upper portion of the rear seat, but need the lower cushion and armrests. To finish it, it will need things like: Finish the side glass Complete interior Finish the body work Clean up rear notch (grinding down some of the metal work/welds) Some interior sheet metal work (to cover up four link area, trunk and rear wheel wells) Rear shocks and mounts welded in I would probably also change the rearend gearing as the car tops out at about 65mph. New hood (the current one is pretty ugly, but it works) Fabrication of seal around rear window There is a ton I'm not listing, so please let me know if you have questions or need additional photos, etc. I have owned the car for over three years and pretty much all of the work that I have listed was done prior to me buying it, so my knowledge is somewhat limited, but I will help with whatever I can. I am not desperate to sell this car, in fact, I am having a really hard time parting with it. I love it and it was a dream car of mine for many years prior to owning it. Really, the only reason I am selling it is because I think my interests have changed and I am moving muscle cars now. If you are considering a trade, I would be interested in a partial (money on your end) or straight across trade of equal/similar (about $10k) value for a 60's or 70's muscle car. I would consider: Cudas, Challengers, Chargers, GTOs, Mustangs (fastbacks), Camaros, Chevelles, Darts, Impalas, Skylarks, etc. I am going for the Pro Touring/Restomod type of car now if that helps. Shipping: Arrangements and cost will be up to the buyer. The car is located in Vancouver, WA (a few minutes from Portland, OR). I will work with you (within reason) to get it to a transporter, etc., if that is needed. If a trade is arranged and you are within a few hundred miles, we may be able to work out an alternative. Payment: The successful high bidder agrees to make payment arrangements within 3 days of the close of the auction. The successful high bidder agrees to make a $1000 deposit within 24 hours of the auction's end. Your deposit will be applied to the remaining balance. Full balance to be paid within 7 days.
