Vehicle Detail

1977 Volkswagen Camper Bus****** Low reserve!!!!!! My kids are going to skin me alive but I’m selling “Bradford”. Bradford is a 1977 Baywindow, Tin-top camper Bus. I’ve owned this bus for about 4 years. He runs and drives excellent and I wouldn’t be afraid of driving this bus across the country. It’s been well maintained mechanically and really runs like a top. We’ve had it out on several, longer road trips with zero issues. We drive it everywhere and spend a lot of time camping and out at the lake. Bradford isn’t perfect by any means but is a good driving, reliable bus that you can get in and enjoy and fix/change the little things as you want to. As you can see, it’s a “Tin-top” camper with Westphalia interior. The only reason why I’m selling it is to get one with a pop-top. The kids have got bigger and we need the extra room. The bus does come with a new, “Add-a-room” tent. We’ve only used it a couple of times because they want to sleep in the bus!! It is handy though because it gives you a lot of extra space and you can leave it up and drive away from it. Here’s the skinny: Engine/Tranny/Clutch- 2.0-liter fuel injected that has about 60,000 on a rebuild. Runs like a top with plenty of power. No smoke, knocks or weird sounds. Starts up easy and idles great. Small oil leak but nothing unusual. 4 speed manual transmission that shifts great. The new clutch has about 2000 miles on it. Electrical- All lights and gauges work. The right, rear side taillight just got smashed in a parking lot so it’s not functioning at the moment. The bezel is there but it will need a new lens and bulb. Interior lights work too. It has an inverter system so you can plug in a heater or other electrical items. It also runs two batteries with a switch so you don’t drain one down and you can always start the bus. Heater fan works well too. Brake, tail, head and blinker lights all work. The horn works when it feels like it. The wipers work great. It has an after market CD player with a remote and 2, 6x9 speakers. You can move them around as they have a length of wire. We set them outside the bus sometimes. Body- The body of this bus is solid. It does have some surface rust on the bottom of the sliding door and a few spots in the back. The underside, floors, wheel wells and doglegs are solid as a rock. Actually, this bus has very little rust at all compared with many of its age and type. It’s all cosmetic and not structural at all as you can see from the pictures. This bus was undercoated at one time. The frame and underside are all solid with only minor surface rust. There is some rust around the side window channels as well as the windshield and back window rubber but not major. One of the side, vent window frames is rusty but I have a replacement. All of the glass is in great shape. The windshield is new. The paint is older but is ok. Because this bus gets used, it does have some scratches and minor dents and dings here and there. I don’t think that it was originally blue because there is some bits of brown under the engine hatch and some green on one of the doors. The driver’s side taillight area is pushed in a bit and has been that way since I got it. All in all, with very little work, this bus could be returned to it’s original glory with little effort. It’s got a solid body and underside. The driver’s side door lock cylinder just broke and the rear hatch can only be opened via the inside, as I don’t have a key that fits it. Now would be a good time to get some new lock cylinders and have them all work off the same key. That’s a cheap and easy fix too. The doors all open and shut like new and the levers work fine it’s just that you can’t lock the driver’s door at the moment. As you can see, it also has a roof rack. That comes in handy and looks cool!! Interior- The inside of the bus is complete and in decent shape. It does have Westphalia camper interior. It has a sink with a new pump and a tank under it. The stove works but functions off of the small fuel bottles like a camp stove. The Fridge works too. The rear seat folds down into a bed and the original cushions are comfortable. They do have a small rip in the seat fabric. The veneer is peeling as usual with the interior cabinets and such but it all functions well. The front seats are black vinyl and are pretty solid. The heater and defrost work pretty good but the cables that run the ductwork have been cut. In the winter, I wire open the heater boxes and un-wire them in the spring. No biggie to me but you can replace these easily too. There’s enough wire for the front vents to still operate them though. The carpet is astro-turf and I like it because it’s tough and easy to clean!! Wheels/Tire/Brakes- The tires that are on it have about 40% tread left. It does come with an almost new set of studded winter tires. The wheel caps are all there and aren’t rusted up or dented. The rear brakes have been redone recently and work well. Extras- There is an original, child’s hammock and the mounting brackets that I’ve never installed. There is also an original jump seat that is in OK condition. I have a set of tire chains that go with it as well as a couple of spare curtains and a bug screen that goes over the back hatch when camping. There’s some misc. tools and other odds and ends as well, plus the almost new, studded tires mentioned above. All in all Bradford is a fun, good looking and great running little bus that’s ready for the next owners to enjoy. Is it perfect?? Nope but it’s usable as is and could be made very nice with little effort. Also, it’s the type of bus that you can take out and enjoy. You can use it without worrying about the paint or someone’s muddy shoes! It’s designed for fun! This bus has become a part of my family and I hate to see it go but I’m only selling it to help finance a new “Bradford” with a pop-top. Please ask questions if you have them and if you live close, come and take him for a spin!! I can email you pictures of any part of the bus you want as well. $1000 deposit due within 24 hours. The balance due in 72 hours. I can store inside for a while if needed. I will also help work with your shipped to get it loaded. Or fly in and drive it home! Payment in the form of certified funds or cash. I can take a credit card as well. Title will be signed over after the payment has cleared. I reserve the right to end this auction early for ay reason at any time. If you have a pile of negatives, don’t bid. If you have less than 5 positives, contact me first before you bid. I’m getting sick of scammers and people who bid but don’t have the funds, permission or desire to complete the transaction. Don’t dink around with my auction. I’m not selling my bus for the fun of it or to entertain nit-wits.
