This is a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 406d Panel Van. The truck is in great condition, I can almost say zero rust!!! It really only has a tiny amount of surface rust where the paint is chipped in a couple tiny areas, that is it!!! The body has a few very small dings, but is otherwise very straight and clean. This van has been very well taken care of by Mercedes enthusiasts and kept undercover for most of it's life. It originally had a gas engine and a manual transmission from the factory, but an OM 314 diesel engine mated to an Allison automatic transmission was swapped in. Since this engine and transmission combo was a stock option in these vans the install was done using all original parts and no fabrication. It is an extremely fun truck to drive. We bought this truck to use for our business, but after driving it around and inspecting it, we decided it would be a shame to retro fit the van to suit our needs and put a ton of miles on it since it is in such amazing condition. I think it would be far better suited in the hands of a collector or someone who really loves these vehicles and will use it in it's current condition. We have already used it to move a bunch of different heavy things around the city for work and friends and I just have to say it is a pretty amazing vehicle. It is extremely heavy duty and able to carry tons of weight, but has a nice short wheelbase so is very maneuverable and a ton of grunt and power out of that little engine. I have not calculated it's mileage yet, but a friend of mine who has one told me he got about 22mpg on the highway and that's fully loaded!!! There is also a tremendous amount of space in the cargo area although this van is a short wheelbase model it is also the tall ceiling variant. It is very tall inside like the sprinter vans.
