Vehicle Detail

You are viewing a stunningly restored 1969 Alfa Romeo Roundtail Spider - type 10557, which is a European example. Restored in the Italy approximately 13 years ago with only 11,000 KM (which is under 7000 miles) on the restoration. Always stored and covered, this Duetto is a wonderful example. The previous owner was living in France, and wanted the best Roundtail Spider he could find. After a long search, this beautiful Spider was purchased in 2001 and imported from Italy to France. The Alfa was used on some Club events for the next 1.5 years when the owner was transferred back to California. The Alfa Duetto was shipped back in a container with his other treasure - an Arnolt Bristol. Upon arriving back to California, the Alfa remained stored and covered while the Porsche got regular use. The Alfa has seen virtually no use since then, but has been maintained regularly, and is ready to drive anywhere. The Duetto is currently stored for the winter, so I'll do my best to get some additional pictures as well as add to the detailed description of the Alfa. The European models were slightly different from the US versions. Primarily the main difference is that the Euro cars still retained the Weber carbs, where as the US versions in 1969 were the first models to have the Spica Fuel Injection. Another difference under the hood is the single brake booster - US models came with "dual" booster. Other differences are the European Gauges - Speedo goes up to 220 KPH. The Euro cars came with factory headlight covers as well as European Headlights and the seats on the Euro cars still came without headrests. Also, the Euro cars came with parking marker lights on the front fenders only. Lastly, the Euro cars were fitted with a factory wooden "Hellebore" steering wheel that is a stunning as the rest of the car. The body is in beautiful condition with a stunning paint job. There is no rust on the body and there is no evidence of any rust or body repairs that I could detect. The Alfa retains the correct factory seams on the rocker panels as shown in the pictures. The nose panel is nice with no rock chips. As you can see in the pictures, it has the correct "dimple" on the nose. There are a couple of minor blemishes that occured when the Alfa was shipped back, specifically a small crack in the paint near the grill - too small to show up on a picture and also a small scratch that was touched up on the passenger side quarter panel, and a small ding on the hood. These blemishes are not noticeable unless it is pointed out, but worth mentioning. The bumpers are in nice condition with no dents or damage. The grill is great condition as well. The Alfa would look great at the next Alfa Concours - anyone would be proud to display this beautiful rare Spider. Mechanically the Alfa is powered by it's original 1750 cc engine (AR 00548 series engine) with factory webers and euro airbox. It has a nice shifting 5 Speed transmission, and as stated, is ready to drive anywhere. There is nothing mechanical that the Alfa needs. Always starts right up, with no electrical issues. Since the Duetto was restored in Italy, it recieved a "European" style interior restoration that included cloth style seats that are very common in Europe. The door panels were done in the same manner, and is in perfect conditon. The seats, carpet & door panels all look new with no wear or damage. The convertible top is a high quality cloth top that looks like it was installed yesterday. The fit is near perfect, and it is always stored with the top up, to keep it looking new. Tires are near new Vredsteins mounted on correct 14" steel wheels with correct hubcaps. Has correct radio block off plate as shown in the interior pictures. Prior to my purchase, the Alfa received a freshening up after being in storage. The cooling system was gone through with a new water pump, hoses. There was also work done on the brakes as well othe misc work. I need to go through the records to get see what other work was done. When I received the Alfa, I replaced the side view mirror with a NOS correct side view mirror. The exhaust was new however the rear section had the wrong tail pipe as shown in some of the pictures. That has been corrected with a NOS rear section that is the "straight pipe" version. The slave cylinder in new and was just replaced. If you look carefully at the pictures, you can see that the Alfa has an incorrect reverse light. This was next on the "to do" list. One last point to mention is the chrome trim pieces for the top boot have some pitting to them. I have a very nice pair that have yet to be installed, but will be included in the sale. As stated, the Alfa has only covered just under 7000 miles since undergoing the restoration. Keep in mind that this restoration was done over 10 years ago, and really shows very nicely. It's a wonderful example that is ready to drive and enjoy. If you are reading this, then you know that the Roundtail Spider's are one of the most beautiful Alfa's to come out of Italy. They are appreciating nicely and will make a wonderful investment for the Alfa enthusiast that wants a turn-key Spider. I predict that Duetto's will follow the same appreciation that Giulia's and Giulietta's are experiencing right now. These cars are wonderful are really quite advanced for being over 40 years old.
