Vehicle Detail

I bought this bike from the original owner's son last fall, which is when the included photos were taken. This is possibly the nicest unrestored '79 in the country. It has always been stored inside and it shows -- chrome and paint are in fantastic condition, even the redline on the tach is unfaded. I would think you could easily show this bike as it sits if you wanted to. As you can see from the photos, the bike is extremely clean cosmetically. Only flaws of any note are a couple of small scratches on right side of tank, between the pinstripes on the tank, above the 'Honda' emblem, hard to see if you're not looking for it, and a couple of thin scratches on one side cover, please see photos. The vinyl tank top pad also has a small split in it, visible in the photos of the tank. Other than that it's very difficult to fiind any flaws on the bike cosmetically. I did drive the bike to the place I am storing it and the motor runs extremely well with no unusual noises. However, there are some maintenance items that should be attended to before the bike is ridden regularly. The carbs probably need a good cleaning, the brakes drag a bit (but are not frozen), the headstock bearings should be serviced and there is a small amount of coolant seeping from the weep hole on the bottom of the engine cases -- it probably needs a new water pump and seals. While you're at it, I would change the timing belt as previous owner told me he wasn't aware of it ever being changed. In any event, I did let the bike get up to operating temp. before riding it, and the temp gauge read just below half way, just where it should be. Inside of fuel tank is clean as a whistle. I have only ridden the bike very briefly and there may be other maintenance items needed, but as far as I can tell, the bike only needs the maintenance brought up to date, and doesn't need any 'repairs,' or anything of that nature. It should also be noted that the bike never sat for years on end, but has been ridden pretty sparingly in the past 5 years or so. I can vouch for this as I have personally seen it parked outside previous owner's workplace at least a few times every summer while living in Dickinson. The bike has a lot of period correct accessories including Vetter fairing and lowers, throttle lock, nice crashbars, small saddlebags and top-case. Radio is not functioning as far as I can tell. The side bags have been reinforced with diamond-plate sheetmetal to make them more rigid according to previous owner, but they are attached only to the saddlebag frames and not the bike itself. As a matter of fact, I will include everything needed to return the bike to 'naked,' just as it came from the factory, with the exception of headlight ears that still have the turn signal studs mounted, which were unique to the 1979 Gold Wings. The original headlight ears are still present on the forks, but unfortunately the studs were cut to mount the Vetter fairing. The original wiring also appears intact and is bundled together under the fairing. The original seat is just about perfect as it was only re-mounted on the bike this past fall when I bought the bike. According to previous owner, his father mounted a king and queen seat shortly after buying the bike. The foam on the original still feels cushy and pliant. I also have the king and queen seat which will go with the bike if buyer wants it. Buyer will also receive both factory keys, one of which looks like it's never been used, and all keys for the bags and topcase. I will also include the nice original owner's manual, toolkit, and Clymer manual that came with the bike. Please examine the pictures and ask questions before bidding. I will do my best to answer your questions. Open title in previous owner's name in my possession -- bike was never registered in my name. This 'Wing could be a real find for a person who is familiar with and loves these bikes. Buyer must pick up, but I will work with your shipper however I can. I am also somewhat flexible on when bike is picked up, considering how the weather has been lately. Buyers with a less than 5 feedback score or excess negative feedback must email me first before bidding or risk having their bid cancelled. I am a 100% positive feedback seller, so bid with confidence. No reserve, so bid to win.
