Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE I purchased this car from the owner of British Motor Service of Orange, California about three years ago. The car was his personal “B” and he took fantastic mechanical care of it. The motor was rebuilt approximately 15K miles ago with high compression pistons, mild camshaft, and a custom Weber carburetor set up. The overdrive transmission was also completely rebuilt including the electrical solenoids. Best of all, for California residents, the car has a California BAR sticker from a motor change in 1991 that allows the vehicle to be run legally with this high performance engine WITHOUT catalytic convertors and the smog pump. This type of emission testing is grandfathered-in on very few cars and the tough California emissions tests are easily passed. Needless to say, the engine makes more power and performs better than my former supercharged MGB, and has none of the emissions problems that inhibit the horsepower on later smog equipped MG’s. This car has the rare electric overdrive transmission. If you know MG’s, you know how key this feature is. I cannot say enough good about the overdrive transmission. When you are in fourth gear, you merely press the “James Bond-ish” switch on top of the gearshift knob and presto, fifth gear!!! On the freeway, it cruises about 900 RPM lower than regular 4 speed MG’s and makes for much more relaxing drive and better gas mileage, too. Again, the transmission and overdrive unit have been rebuilt and they function flawlessly. The car runs and drives well, and recently I changed out the brake master cylinder. The car is also equipped with a GM style high amp alternator for reliable charging and an electronic ignition system, as well. The body was original and rust-free when I got it and I believe that the car has never been in accident. Because the original white paint was so badly faded, I re-painted the car with a basecoat/clearcoat two stage paint a few months ago. Most trim was removed prior to paint and the finished product looks fantastic. New window weather-stripping installed. Overall, the body is nice and shiny with no dents or dings. Despite the vehicle’s age, the interior looks very nice. The seats have been restored, re-padded, and recovered in the factory basket weave vinyl. The door panels are also nice and the dash looks great with a proper grained cover. The carpets appear to be original and could be changed out for a show car, but they are serviceable and suit the character of the car nicely. The convertible top is in fine condition and has new crystal-clear rear windows. A tonneau/convertible top boot is also included with the sale. The radio was swapped out with a new Alpine CD player with new speakers, so you can actually hear it with the top lowered. I replaced the stock 14” road wheels and tires with the Wolf 15x6 Minilites and low profile tires. MG center caps and embossed lug nuts finish the wheels. This size and combination makes for a nice ride with superior modern handling characteristics. The tires have very low miles on them and have gobs of tread left. The original wheels and tires will be included with the sale. I love this car, but have 15 other cars, many of which seldom see the road. I have driven this car less than 500 miles per year since I took possession. I will be listing three cars on ebay over the next week, including an un-restored British Racing Green 1977 MGB (with overdrive, of course) so check my other auctions as well. I invite and encourage an inspection at any reputable shop in the Los Angeles area at the buyer’s expense. I will do whatever I can to assist with transportation and/or physical inspections during the auction period. I will answer whatever questions I can about the car during the auction period as soon as I can. I have a clean California title in my name and the car is registered until mid-February 2011. The odometer shows 24278, however this is not original, more likely 124,278, but is mileage exempt due to the vehicle age. Miles may be higher at the close of action as the vehicle is available for test drives and inspections. Please understand that bidding on this vehicle represents a contract to purchase it. I have sold several collector cars on ebay over the past few years with success, but I have also heard the horror stories. I expect you to follow through on your bid. Please be a serious buyer and have cash or financing in place to pay for this vehicle in full within 7 days. I will accept a bank transfer, cash, or a certified cashier’s check for payment. A non-refundable $200. Deposit is due within 48 hours of auctions close by paypal or any of the above payment methods. I can assist with shipping and the vehicle is very close to the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, California. I will provide a smog certificate if the buyer is in California. The car is sold as is where is. I reserve the right to end the auction early or cancel auction, as the vehicle is being advertised locally. Again, please contact me with any questions you might have. Good luck!!!The auction was stopped and re-started due to an glitch in the supersize and zoom on the pics.
