Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a very solid 1970 Mercury Cougar XR7. This car has almost no rust, and is in very original condition. 351W V8, C6 automatic, 9 inch rearend, 3.00 gears. Leather interior, power disc brakes, power steering, no A/C. 159,000 miles. I pulled the engine and replaced all the gaskets, frost plugs, belts and hoses, spark plugs, etc. Also put in new timing chain and gears, oil pump, water pump, fuel pump, and alternator, and rebuilt the carb. Also fan clutch, battery and cables. Starts in the cold, runs sweet. Drives straight, brakes work well and don't pull, new air shocks in back and new front shocks. Hideaway headlights work good, sequential tail lights work, but seem erratic when light are on. Bad ground? Everything else works, rim blow steering wheel works but not in all areas. Heat/defrost selector moves hard but does work. The bumpers are pretty good, but not perfect, chrome is shiny, but a couple spots missing. Same with the rest of the trim, all in all good shape, but some dingers. Glass is good, one small chip in windshield. The logo is missing from the center of the steering wheel. The driver's seat has some tearing, not too bad. Package tray in back has some missing chunks, not real noticeable. The dash has some discoloration, again not too bad. Otherwise, interior very good shape and complete. Aftermarket casette radio. The car does have some chips and dings, but overall pretty straight. Someone has attempted to touch-up some of these areas, color does not match too well. White vinyl top is in pretty good shape, but has some dark discolored spots, a couple small cracks in the passenger side front pillar, and the vinyl is sort of bumpy in the back corners of the top. I don't think it's rust under there, just the vinyl wadding up a little. The wheels are brand-new American Racing 14's, and the tires are Coopers with very descent tread. One of the tires has a small cut on the outside, holds air. Good 2" dual exhaust, nice sound but not too loud. The floor pans, frame rails, torque boxes, rockers, lower fenders, trunk floor, etc. are in great shape. The pictures show the rust spot ahead of the left rear wheel, and under the quarters behind the rear wheels. That's the only rust I can find. The car is for sale locally, but as soon as the reserve is hit, I'll pull the sign and only the high bidder will get it. Check my feedback, I've tried to acurately describe the car, ask specific questions before bidding. $500 deposit within 24 hrs, balance in 3 days. Thanks for looking, and happy bidding! On Jan-27-11 at 11:19:49 PST, seller added the following information: Thanks to several helpful ebayers, I've found some things about this car that I need to clear up. I believe that the transmission is indeed an FMX. It has a cast iron body. Also, I looked at the data plate in the drivers door and found out that the door has been replaced! I spoke with the previous owner, (2nd owner) who had the car since 1984. He had no knowledge of the door being changed, so it had to have been done by the original owner. The plate says it's a 69, medium blue, 2.75 axle, etc, and you can see some darker blue paint in the paint chips. So, I don't have the original data plate. If this is a problem for you, don't bid. If you've already bid and this is a problem, feel free to retract. Also, to be clear, this car does have some chips, scratches, small dents, and other blemishes. The paint is faded. I cannot see any filler or other body repair. Feel free to contact me with any other questions. I can send more pictures of certain areas also. Thanks On Jan-28-11 at 13:16:47 PST, seller added the following information: I was just cleaning this car and cracked the console with my knee. Damn. I'll probably try to glue it, but it needs mentioning. Also filled the tank (with premium, of course) and noticed the fuel gauge only goes to about 3/4. Got the Marti report today. Here it is.
