Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Up for auction is a 1955 Chevrolet 3100 pickup with the rare “big window”. I have owned this vehicle for about 2.5 years, and planned on doing a restoration, but never got around to it. The truck has been “camaro-clipped” which means the front suspension/frame of a 70-78 Camaro has replaced the original truck suspension. This provided the truck with independent front suspension, power disc brakes, and power steering. It is an extremely common procedure for this era pickup. I did not do the clip, but it looks to have been done well. The truck tracks straight, handles well, turns well, stops on a dime, and rides much better than a stock straight-axle pickup. It will truck down the highway at 70mph. The engine is a Buick 350. It starts right up, doesn’t seem to burn any oil, and appears to be in good mechanical condition. No knocks or ticks of any kind. I believe it is from a 75-78 Buick, and has a quadrajet carburetor. Mileage unknown. The transmission is a TH-350, column shift. It doesn’t slip and shifts well. Mileage unknown. NOTE: When the previous owner lowered the rear of this truck (by removing leaves from the spring pack, I believe) he did not shorten the driveshaft. This has caused the slip-yoke of the drive shaft to be pushed nearly all the way into the tail shaft housing. Over time, this causes the yoke seal at the end of the transmission to fail, and develop a leak. To correct this, the driveshaft will need to be shortened accordingly, and a new seal installed at the end of the tail shaft housing. This is an easy fix, ~$100, and does not affect drivability (unless too much fluid leaks out), but is something that will need to be addressed. I believe the rear end is a stock GM unit. Ratio unknown. The tires have good tread left, but are starting to show small sidewall cracks. I wouldn’t be afraid to run these tires at all. I just want to disclose EVERYTHING. The body and cab on this truck are in very good condition. Currently painted in black primer. The cab corners are solid, so are the “cab steps.” The floor has NO RUST, although there has been some holes cut in the transmission tunnel (for various shifters over the years, I’d guess) The bed is in great shape. The original wood is still there, but has been covered by sheet metal. There is some rust at the hood corners; about a 6x1 inch strip (very common on these trucks). The passenger front fender bottom has some rust. It looks as if the drivers side is solid. The rear fenders are reproduction fiberglass units, and look to be well made. I will suggest a new set of door hinges and a few hours of door/latch adjustment, but currently, the doors do shut, latch, lock, and open fairly well. The electrical systems works. It is a very simple system that has not given me any problems. The headlights work, turn signals work (front right bulb is burned out), brake lights work. I cant seem to get the wipers to turn on, however. The interior is very rudimentary, with simple bench seat, no carpet, and few gauges. The truck does not have a speedometer or tachometer. There is an aftermarket set of water temp, oil pressure (pressure tube disconnected- but engine registers good oil pressure), and voltmeter gauges, no gas level gauge. No headliner installed. The column is a tilt unit, most likely from the donor camaro. All the glass is in good shape, however the windshield has one “star.” No cracks. The truck has a clear Colorado title. I am not interested in trades. Most importantly, this truck is not perfect. It is a 1955 body/frame with a 1970’s front suspension and engine, and you should consider the age of the components before bidding. I had a very bad experience with a buyer about 5 years ago. Due to Mike from Arizona, I will not, under any circumstances, deliver this truck anywhere. It is sold as-is, where-is. If you arrange to pick up this vehicle personally, or have a shipping company do it, I will be more than glad to help. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at tkemp86@gmail.com or call 970-309-8329. My name is Tanner. This truck is located in western Colorado, about 1 hour south of Grand Junction. Finally, if you have zero feedback, please contact me before bidding. Failing to do so will result in your bid being cancelled. This vehicle is being sold as is, where is, with no warranty, expressed written or implied. The seller shall not be responsible for the correct description, authenticity, genuineness, or defects herein, and makes no warranty in connection therewith. No allowance or set aside will be made on account of any incorrectness, imperfection, defect or damage. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have thoroughly inspected the vehicle, and to have satisfied himself or herself as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgment solely. Seller assumes no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any oral statements about the vehicle.
