Vehicle Detail
We acquired this outstanding French automobile at an estate auction of a deceased dentist who was a friend of our family. He had no relatives and left his entire estate to the Southern Baptist Mission Board. At the auction, the car wasn't bringing what my wife and I thought it should, so we brought it home. The dentist purchased the car new, and it stayed in his garage for 31 years. We really can not afford to keep the car because of our family situation; however, my wife really loved the dentist who owned it and has an emotional tie to this vehicle. In other words, we are not going to accept a low bid. This all original 1979 Peugeot 504 Saloon (Sedan) is equipped with the famous 2.3L diesel and a smooth shifting ZF three speed automatic transmission. The car also features power brakes and steering, air conditioning, power front windows, a manual sunroof, and the factory AM/FM stereo. Included with the car are the owner's manuals and an original shop manual in a 4" binder that contains hundreds of pictures. The original Michelin spare is still holding air under the car, and the jack and hand crank are in a nice leather bag in the trunk. Also in the trunk is the original weather front that pushes into the grill to block air flow during extremely cold temperatures. In addition, we have some original Peugeot touch-up paint and the original registration proving the car was a one owner vehicle until a couple of months ago. The car runs and drives superbly, and has been fully serviced during the past month. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. This vehicle is very tight, handles extremely well, and rides like a large American car. The German transmission is silky smooth. The diesel starts easily after waiting for the preheat light to go off. We have started the car at 20 F with no problems. Furthermore, everything on the car works---all the lights, the power equipment, and even the Jaeger clock in the dash is still ticking. The body and original paint is in great condition for a '79 model. A close look at the paint does show light hazing and some age. Also, the car is a 99% rust free Tennessee car. The negative aspects of the vehicle are very few. The driver's seat has a rip in the right side that could easily be repaired (see picture). The driver's door has been painted at some point, and in bright light when viewed at certain angles, the repaint is fairly obvious. (again, see the picture). However, in low light, and in bright light from differing angles it appears to be a nearly perfect color match. Also, we have not attempted to operate the A/C, so I am uncertain of its functionality. Finally, perhaps the most detracting point of all Peugeot's is the difficulty of obtaining parts from normal outlets. We have made some contacts here and overseas that are great resources for parts. If you win, you may pick-up the car or we will deliver the car within 500 miles of our residence for $1 per mile one way. A $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of auction end. Payment must be in certified funds. Sorry, no PayPal, and no personal checks. If you have questions, please ask. We are Christian people, and we will not misrepresent the car.
