The '59 Caddy had it all -- looks, performance, and comfort. It stood as the ultimate symbol of success, impressive and -- yes -- controversial. The outrageous tail fins and jet pod taillights. No single automotive design better characterizes the industry's late Fifties flamboyance than the 1959 Cadillac, which incorporated totally new styling:Large tailfins, twin bullet taillamps ,two distinctive rooflines and roof pillar configurations . The car has power brakes , power steering, automatic transmission, dual backup lamps ,windshield washers and two-speed wipers, wheel discs, outside rear view mirror and vanity mirror.The Cadi was purchased in 2001 to be used as a prop in fashion shoots, music videos and movies at a studio in Miami. The milage could be 187000, no way of checking.Previously the upholstery was totally replaced at a cost of $1850.00 (have receipt) a new dash pad was badly installed, (see photos), headliner in great condition.A set of Cadillac wire wheels with logo cap cost $1250 (they have surface rust and one cap is missing).All wheels studs, rear brakes cylinders and shoes were replaced cost $1002.35.On purchasing the car I had the crankshaft replaced at a cost of $2137.81New steering bushes, both tie rods $370.00.After market temperature and oil pressure gages, new idler arms $505.Complete exhaust system replaced, needs new rear mufflers.Two new white wall tires $287.The cars is a driver, there seems to be a leak at one of the manifolds and the rear mufflers have holes so the engine is noisy.There is rust in the rockers, the bottom of the doors are bubbling, there is rust at the rear passenger side below lights.The inner rockers are shot, one of the body mounts is rusted away, the floors have been replaced but not correctly.( See photos)All the electric windows work but passenger rear sometimes needs help, electric antennae and radio work, clock not working, lights, indicators,horn and wipers function.Power steering, bakes, transmission work fine.No broken glass but windshield showing it age fogging in corners, quarter light glass aging.Bumpers, potmetal all showing their age, stainless in good drivers condition.Door and trunk weather stripping should be replaced.Rear trunk emblem has lost most of the studs and should be repaired or replaced.The car needs work, it drives fine and has been fun.
