Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is my 1965 Convertible. When I wanted a Convertible, I waited until I found the nicest one I could. This Convertible is the nicest Bug I have ever owned, hands down. I bought this car from the daughter of the original owner off a farm in Boulder, CO. Her mother used to drive around Fort Collins with a cowbell hanging from the side mirror and a stuffed animal dog in the passenger seat. The original owner got too old to drive and the daughter was given the Bug. She had the motor professionally rebuilt in 2004 by Verner's in Boulder, and she had seatbelts installed. When I got this Bug it had 3 layers of seat covers over the originals, and it had shag carpet everywhere inside. I took the seat covers off and the shag out, to reveal a very original interior. The front seats were ripped up so I ordered original style seat covers from Wolfsburg West and had them professionally installed with new high density foam, they feel great! I have driven this Bug since I bought it and it now has 44k miles. I believe this to be actual mileage and I have records from 1994 indicating 32k miles. Judging by the condition, I would say that it only has 44k original miles. Items of interest are the immaculate glove box without a scratch, original paint seat frames without a chip in the paint, original horn button with no wear or cracks and incredibly shinny silver, original paint black pedal cluster without any paint chips, very clean original paint headlight buckets, and original untorn back seat. This is a very original Bug that has been driven and maintained for 45 years. I was told it had been driven to Vegas once by the old lady and her husband. It does have some 70's bodywork under the repaint(see additional pictures on Photobucket), but remains a very clean original example. This car has never been hit front or rear. I am very picky about my cars and have pictured even the most minute flaws. It has been driven all its life so there is some rust as is typically found on Convertibles that haven't undergone restoration. Most notably, the back bumper brackets have been replaced and the support rails are rusted out. As well, the rear pan quarters are getting soft but not rusted out. The heater channels are mostly solid and the heat really cooks! Both doors open and close very soundly! I drove this Bug last winter and all last summer. It is a good dependable car. I believe the generator is slowly going out. This Bug is still 6v and comes with a 6v Optima, but I would recommend upgrading to 12v. The original AM stereo still works with the original speaker with great clarity. I listen to AM all the time while driving. All the lights and turn signals work as they should. The top on this Bug is original, but someone painted the headliner on the inside, white. It looks great up or down. Comes with the original top boot, which has just recently started to dry and tear. There are a few tears starting to happen on the top as it is drying out from age, but it is still in original condition and does insulate the car very well. I have driven this Bug when it is snowing or raining and have no problems staying warm and dry. At one point I had a key made for the glovebox door and the hood lock, so I know the locks operate, but I've since lost that key. The key code for those is SC 175. One of the door handles is also SC 175, but the other one isn't. I have two keys for the ignition. The coolest part is the original dealer badge from Ed Carroll in Fort Collins, which is still an active VW dealership to this very day! This is a very original 1965 Convertible from Colorado, and I hope the next owner can enjoy it as much as I have! This car is for someone who understands what an original car is. It has not been taken apart and put back together improperly. It is not a resto-custom. It is a car that has survived 45 years of life and shows its age, beautifully. When I say "original" I mean parts that this car came with from the factory, not just original VW parts assembled together and mismatched. This car remains about 97% original. Front End -New drums, new shoes, new wheel cylinders -Original black BOGE shocks Rear End -New shoes, new wheel cylinders, new hardware -Original one piece axle boots -Original black BOGE shocks Motor -rebuilt by Verner's in Boulder in 2004 -1600cc single-port, brand new universal unstamped case -Original top end > carburetor (28pict1), distributor, smooth generator stand -new fuel pump (I have receipts totaling $4300 for the motor) Interior -Professionally reupholstered front seats using Wolfsburg West seat covers, and new high density foam -Original front seats -Original back seat with no rips, smoke stained from the old lady's cigarettes -Original headliner and coconut fiber insulation in the top -Original vinyl top with decorative strip above rear window -Original rear window and seal -Original carpet kit, tattered and worn -Original rubber mats -New shift knob, grey, the original one crumbled to pieces -Replaced shift boot, from Wolfsburg West -Original top boot -Original working Sapphire I radio and original speaker, AM only Exterior -Replaced bumper bracket seals and upright seals, from Wolfsburg West -Replaced tail light seals and license light housing seal, from Wolfsburg West -Professional buff, polish, and wax by German Perfection -Replaced trim clips and the trim clip boots -Original trim -Replaced running boards, I saved the originals because the trim is different -3 original trim rings, one replaced -Replaced one gravel guard with NOS -Original black delete piece behind the passenger horn grill -Original paint headlight buckets -Original windshield and seal -Original bumpers I have tried to describe this beautiful vintage VW to the best of my ability. This car should be viewed in person, but I can take 2 million pictures for you as well. I am offering it at a fair price so that the next person can enjoy it as much as I have, and not just garage it. This car does run and drive, but it is not perfect, as can be expected from a 45 year old vehicle. I am an avid VW enthusiast and would recommend the new owner be as well to help preserve this car for future generations. I am willing to deal with people from out of town, but I do not accept out of town checks. Payment must be made in cash or a direct wire transfer of funds. I can help load this Bug on a car hauler if you choose to ship it. Clean, clear, Colorado title in my name. If you have any questions, please contact me. I am not entertaining trades at all. Serious contacts only, please do not waste my time. Check with your wife before making any arrangements!! Previous bidder backed out, please only bid if you are serious! Absolutely no onsite negotiating once the auction has ended at a final price!!!!! Thanks! I have taken into account the rebuilt motor, the originality of the vehicle, the original interior, the current operating condition, and the rust underneath. All of these factors weighed heavily in my decision of a selling price and I have tried to be as thorough with my description as possible. Thank you and good luck bidding!!
