Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Some additional work has been done on this great piece since previous listings. The headlamps have been restored, installed and wired for use. They work well and light up the road ahead for greater enjoyment. As I have said, many times, and to many people, “There may be more pride of ownership in the factory bodied cars, but nothing is more fun than a T speedster!” And now that fun can go well into the night. There is something special about the openness of a speedster at a moderate pace in the night air with the throttle back to minimize the exhaust for just that right echo in the darkness along a country road. But, please, drive carefully, always. The headlamps have had modern sockets and 12volt bulbs installed for reliability. But it is still an antique. They are not as bright as a modern car. They show up plenty well for you to be seen, and see ahead for that “moderate pace”. Other recent work includes more detailing in and around the engine area, and additional paint touch-up. Nothing major, it still is not a “show car”. This could be YOUR basic model T speedster. It has been recently freshened up. It was not restored to be a show car, nor was it rebuilt to run the “Great Race”. It was restored to be driven and enjoyed. It wants to begin tours with the antique car clubs, and is ready to answer the challenge of the endurance runs. A good looker with the (model A) wire wheels. I have owned and/or restored and toured numerous antique automobiles and horseless carriages including teens and twenties Studebakers, 1929 REO, and eight different model Ts. Five model Ts, including this one, were speedsters. While there may be more “pride of ownership” in the touring cars and center-door sedans, nothing is more fun to own and drive than a model T speedster! I ran this car in the Santa Clara model T 200 mile endurance run a few years ago and had a blast! A couple years ago I completed and ran a boat-tail roadster in the run. After the run, I began to redo this car, finish it, and freshen it up with the intention of keeping it as an alternate or to let friends and family drive it. Then one of those other horseless carriages came along. A project of an early car I have wanted all my life. So my plans had to change. The only reason that I am selling this car is that I need the space and the money for my new old project. And I want to get started on it soon. The front end is tight, the rear end is rebuilt including new seals and parking brakes. The engine is a good old original engine that has had the bearings tightened and modern Chevy valves installed. Original T valves tend to break, now you don’t have to worry about that. The engine runs well and sounds good. It starts easily on battery with the hand crank. There is no magneto, it had been removed before I got the car to lighten the fly-wheel and improve performance. A starter could be added if the new owner wants to, it has the correct hogshead , the ring gear looked good when I had it open, and most of the wiring is starter ready. The original type timer and coils ignition works very well on a 12 volt battery. The coils have new condensers and have been adjusted. The radiator is an original, not the prettiest one I have ever seen, but I have run it on several different Ts and it has never boiled on me. I hate to let it go. Like all model Ts, some tinkering will always be needed. And there may be a few more bugs to shake out, but most went away after the run last year. In the teens and the twenties, thousands of speedsters were built. Most of them were model Ts. This car was rebuilt from the remains of an original and an effort made to keep it as a good representation of what these cars were back in their day. It is a good beginner T or speedster, easy to learn to drive without complicating accessories. It is ready to begin enjoying now. Or you could continue tinkering and change it to your own vision. At this time, the car will be sold on a “bill of sale” only. The reserve is low. If it does not sell right away, I will continue to make improvements, including registration. As more is done, the reserve may go up. So bid to own now, while the deal is at its best. I invite and encourage inspection. If someone close enough to where I live buys it, I would be willing to help them get acquainted with the car and local clubs if needed. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due through PayPal within two days of close of winning bid. The balance must be paid within seven days by certified check or cash. At this low price, cash is preferred. Any Cashier's Check funds will clear before the car will be released. Pick-up is the sole responsibility of the buyer and all arrangements to be made by the buyer. I can help with loading and meet a transporter in a suitable loading location. I can deliver the car up to about a hundred miles for a cash payment. Arrangements could be made to deliver it up to about five hundred miles with my trailer for all costs involved. Don’t assume, contact me first. The car is listed for sale locally, so the listing may be ended at any time if it sells locally. As with practically all antique automobiles, the car is sold “as is” with no guarantees covering parts or labor. Although, all the parts on the car do look to be good. I encourage anyone to inspect the car. Sale will be final and there will be NO return. Once again, it is a nice, presentable, enjoyable, tour condition car - not a show car. Any questions, please ask.
