Vehicle Detail
1972 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible Fleetwood Head-Turner You are bidding on one gorgeous 1972 Cadillac Eldorado Fleetwood Convertible. The last of the beautiful big body convertible cruisers with small bumpers and bulletproof legendary motors. There were only 7,975 Eldorado Convertibles built in this year, and 1972 was Cadillac’s 70th year in production. The division broke sales & production records for the year, surpassing a quarter-million cars built in a single model year for the first time ever in Cadillac's history. An interesting and not well-known piece of Cadillac history: In May of 1972, US President Richard Nixon wanted a Sable Black Fleetwood Eldorado Coupe to give as a gift - from the American people, to Soviet Communist Party Secretary, Leonid Brezhnev. It seems Brezhnev was like many of us, a car enthusiast, and Nixon thought, "what better gift to receive than a new Cadillac?" So if a Cadillac is good enough for a highly-appointed Head of State, I can only hope that it will appease those of you with even the most hard-to-please luxury palates. The original color combo of Cotillion White paint (which is still in production to this day) and Dark Blue interior, with a white top gives this classic beauty her style, class, and splendor. The white wall tires and original Cadillac hubcaps complete her classy original look. She is an excellent running and driving car that you can cruise anywhere. I've taken her out daily in the summer here in California, and now that I am back at my seasonal job - she goes out on the weekends, and starts right up every time. I warm her up, and take her out for hours of enjoyment on a full tank - only riding in high octane fuel. This is that classic Convertible Eldo you have been looking for, don’t pass up this opportunity. Her body is very nice. It’s straight, bears good looks and turns heads wherever she goes, but has a couple minor imperfections - she's 38 years old, after all. Her underside is solid and the frame is in very nice shape. She has one repaint back to her original Code-11 Cotillion White (2058) paint. The paint finish is clean and as you can see from the pics, shines up really well to a gloss, but she could use a respray in the future if you want her back in showroom condition. She has a sweet shine to her and as a cruiser/driver car, I've never gotten anything but the finest compliments while out on the town with her. Everyone from older professionals such as bankers and physicians, to the classic car enthusiasts as well as the gear heads who love her fast giant purring motor and the boat gurgle coming out of her tailpipe. All the lovely ladies love cruising and posing for pictures in this creampuff, and the boys have had many a Vegas adventure in 110+ degrees Fahrenheit in her, with the top down, ready to play some blackjack and bring down the house. The chrome and trim are in good condition and the glass is in very nice condition as well. The correct code-A white convertible top looks to have been recently replaced, but there is a small section where she the seam is coming loose (see pic), but this is a quick fix and has not affected anything for me. The code-366 Dark Blue leather interior is original and shows her age. The front driver's seat has a tear in the leather back (please see photo). The back seats and cushions are in fair condition; however the seam where the top of the seat connects to the actual rear of the car's interior is torn (as seen in the photos). The driver's side door panel is clean but there is a crack in the vinyl on the passenger's side door-armrest . The carpet is original, 38 years old like the rest of the car, and while clean, could use another shampoo or you could replace it. The dash is not cracked and looks clean. She has a lot of options: Power Windows, Power Locks, Tilt and Telescopic Steering, 3-Speed Wipers, Power Convertible Top, Dual Comfort Power Front Seats, Climate Control (A/C and Heat), Original AM/FM Stereo with an aftermarket name brand AM/FM/CD (with iPod/AUX cable) player mounted in the glove box. Also, there is an aftermarket high-tech amplifier mounted professionally in the trunk, a JVC CD Changer (which I do not use) along with new speakers that carry some good sound throughout the car. This Classic Eldorado "Betty & Brute" is powered by the world-famous 8.2 liter 500 cubic inch engine. This is a legendary motor with massive 365-hp and 535-ft-lbs of torque. When you give her gas, she goes - AND GOES FAAASST! The automatic transmission had been rebuilt to its original glory and shifts smoothly while driving - carrying her to an easy 75-80MPH on the highway - you can keep her in the fast lane as she thrusts on, straight as an arrow. She has power steering and power brakes with a brand new brake master cylinder and power brake booster. She has had a brand new oil change (Castrol GTX with a Fram Filter), has had an inspection with every service at a reputed classic car and hot rod shop, and brand new valve cover gaskets installed (they also painted the valve covers a flat "hot rod" black after installation). The suspension rides super nice, and as you can see from the pictures, she does not sag one bit in the rear like many other abused and modified Caddy's from this era, and does not require any air bag systems to keep her afloat. This Cadillac runs and drives excellent – just like a Cadillac should! I have found that I can go anywhere in this car without any issues, and she has never let me down, even when sitting for 2 weeks when I went out of town for vacation - she started right up again and purred. She has recently been professionally buffed twice-over and waxed to a nice shine (see pics), and the engine compartment is clean of all dust and debris (see pics). Overall, you are getting a beautiful 1972 Eldorado Convertible in the most desirable colors, good driving/cruising condition that you want, and the drive quality and power you command. Whether you're an avid Cadillac collector, looking for a great Christmas gift for a friend or loved one (or yourself), a classic car enthusiast, this is the one you have been looking for, at a price you can afford. I'm listing her locally as well, and attending all of the regular car shows with her, so if you want her - click the BUY IT NOW BUTTON, and give yourself the gift of Cadillac this holiday season... as I fully reserve the right to end the auction early if she is sold locally and not through eBay. Please feel free to call me on my cell phone at 949-735-7600 if you have any questions about the car. I'm a private seller and a family man, and don't want to see her go, but have to because I have a little one on the way and I will not have the time or money (think college fund) in order to restore her to her full former Pebble Beach beauty (show-quality) as originally intended. The vehicle (and I) are currently located in Orange County, Southern California, and the car was originally from Miami, Florida. You or someone representing you, may come and inspect the car at any time with an appointment. I look forward to making someone's Christmas a whole lot happier! Quick Fabulous Details and The Known Facts I Want to Disclose as an Honest Seller: - Great running, fast start-up every time, very fast & powerful car; driven at 75-80mph on highway and in Vegas temperatures with no known issues - 500cid 8.2L 365hp motor with 535 ft-lbs of torque -- she goes VRROOOM! - Awesome cruiser, turns heads wherever she goes, true piece of Americana and the last year Cadillac made a real "beast" of a car - Convertible power top works - goes both up and down, has parade boot in place, acting as cover; she never comes out in bad weather - Has brand new original convertible-top latch from Hydro-E-Lectric installed on passenger side for a solid seal and any weather - Speedometer and lights on the dashboard and dimmer are functional and look good - Brand new power brake booster & master cylinder; no "check" lights are on on dashboard, and she can stop on a dime with disc brakes up front; in spite of her size & speed - Power seats tilt up & down, raise/lower, but occasionally do not move forward and backwards - currently all the way back; could be fuse - have not needed - Cruise control and A/C have not been used in years as she is a convertible and therefore I would say that they require maintenance; I have used neither feature - Power windows all work - up and down; no issues there - Small scuff on passenger-side rear fender skirt as you can see in the picture provided - Small scratche(s) on back of trunk to the right of Cadillac emblem and on passenger side wing - Small chrome pitting on passenger side door handle (didn't ever bother me or notice) - Rear chrome bumper looks like she is a bit "pinched" upwards from certain angle (see pic, hardly noticeable) - Service records on-hand; matching full-size spare tire and lug wrench in the trunk - Rides very clean, and very straight, even at high speeds; suspension is definitely ALL CADILLAC - very smooth and a "dip eater" for sure - Has never let me down on the road and has not been towed or ever needed towing; motor and tranny seem bulletproof and have been maintained by hot rod & classic shop - The Vanity license plate is paying homage to the late-great Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, as this is the make/model of the car used in (book/film) "Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas" - Comes with hard-to-find original Cadillac one-piece floor mat (with logos), original owner's manual, 1972 Cadillac Eldorado Giant Repair Manual, and sensitive alarm system - Gets compliments everywhere she goes, from the older guys who know their classics, to the girls who love them - make this your Pebble Beach dream machine! This is a very rare opportunity in to own an unabused and unmolested example of a 1972 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible that is originally from Miami Beach, FL and now cruisng in Southern California. It's of course the most desirable color (Cotillion White), with low original miles and no accidents. This is also this decade's last great drop-top with the largest motor ever placed into a passenger vehicle in the history of the United States. She's a great investment that's sure to appreciate over the years for any American classic car collector, and obviously any historical classic Cadillac enthusiast! Since she is mechanically sound, with a little bit of money and TLC on the interior & paint, you can turn this car into a premier show-car, or you can cruise her as-is, as a beautiful driver-car that will still turn heads and give you the rush of driving a classic big-body (fast) Cadillac. Good Luck Bidding! Car is presently plated and registered with clean title, and is available for drive and inspection in Orange County, CA.
