Vehicle Detail

1953 MG TD, original, maintained, not restored This MG is a true survivor, a good solid driver, generally well maintained, with all the things that give this car a special charm. This car rides well on brand new radial tires. It has the proper stance and look of a nice old MG. Black with red interior and grill. STOP! Engine failure at time of sale! #3 rod bearing went. Oh crap! Crank needs regrind. Price dropped to $8500. Was $12,500. Continue reading. There are a little over 79,000 miles, believed to be actual. Everything works except the clock. The engine is not the original, it is an older one, probably 1950 or so, see picture of engine plate. According to the oil pressure gauge, it has about 45-50 lbs. at startup, and 30-35 warm running, with 20W-50 oil and some Lucas Oil Additive. Realistically, the engine is running well but a bit tired, and could benefit from a valve job and timing chain. The clutch, transmission, brakes and suspension feel good. Currently registered, there is no Title for older cars in Connecticut. It will be sold with a Bill of Sale. Comes with: Lucas driving and fog lamps (1 each, considered the hot setup, back in the day), new radial tires (165/80-15) and freshly painted wheels, heater with 3-speed fan, chrome ash tray mounted on the glove box door, Amco Wind Wings, and a grab handle on the dash. The hand-crank is still in its place, and the jack is in the toolbox. Standard dashboard equipment is completely original: speedometer with trip meter, tachometer, ammeter, oil pressure and temperature gauge, clock, low fuel warning light, turn signals with dash indicator, glove box, dash lights with rheostat, pull start knob, and choke. The windshield folds down flat. Original steering wheel is in great shape. Again, everything works except the clock. The pictures are taken from various years. The first two are with the new tires. All the others are earlier. It has a rebuilt generator and newish battery. The entire interior is original with the exception of newer leather seat kits from Moss, and the carpets have been replaced at least once. It has the original Rexine material throughout the interior, most is in very good shape. There is also a set of Moss replacement door panels and other red trim that come with it. Still has the underdash panel. The top is an Amco replacement and it buttons up nicely. The side curtains are complete and usable, but tatty, though the frames were repainted several years ago. Side curtain windows are yellowed and the canvas is covered with cloth tape. With the top down, none of this matters! The tub is strong and the wood is good, but the door hinges are not great, though the doors close well with 2 clicks (if you know MGs, you know what that means.) Includes a pair of original factory manuals – 1 workshop manual, 1 parts book, and a reprint of the Owner’s Handbook. Also I have various reference books that will be included: Restoration Guide by Malcolm Green, The MG Manual by Robert Bentley, The T-Series MGs by Graham Robson, among them. So if you want to get into an MG, you’ll have all the info needed to do it intelligently. There are also a few spare parts with it. All my MG stuff goes with the car. Everywhere the car goes, people lavish compliments on it, give thumbs up, and honk horns. There will often be a conversation to be had when you stop. More smiles per mile than anything out there! I strongly recommend coming to see the car in person before purchase. Please ask questions, I’m happy to spend some time on the phone. Email me for the number.
