Vehicle Detail

This '67 Catalina was built with the rare combination of convertible top, four-on-the-floor, and a front bench seat. As seen in the photographs the body/chassis and interior are in excellent condition, having had a frame-off restoration in 2005. Paint is the 1967 color Linden Green. I purchased this car in 2007 with the intent of engaging in a cross country trip, then prepared for two years to ensure mechanical soundness. The reason for the sale is that I now find the trip highly unlikely. It is not PHS documented, however in the course of listing this car previously as a 2+2 Catalina the true history was revealed to me by a person who was familiar with this SPECIFIC car. It is basically a composite of a hardtop Catalina 2+2 (with 4-speed and bench seat) from upper New York state and a base model Catalina convertible from Pennsylvania. This composition and frame-off restore was nicely done in central Pennsylvania. In addition to the manual transmission and 2+2 badging it does have the heavier suspension antiroll bar (7/8" vs 3/4") of the 2+2 package. This is both a solid and attractive car. A quote from the ebayer who provided me the history "...look, you have a fantastic car there, nicely done by both the restorer and you." As evidenced in the Buy-It-Now price I am not expecting a pedigree price. Following is a list of some of the work performed since 2007: Engine: rebuilt 4-bolt main '69 428 motor, 40-over, Elgin Pontiac "744" cam stock manifold, Quadrajet carb 7029263 (rebuilt and calibrated by Cliff Ruggles) '70 #64 heads added to reduce compression ratio to 9.0 (uses 91 octane pump gas, valve job/porting by SD Performance, have a pair of '69 #16s as well) Harland Sharp full roller rockers (currently 1.5s installed, have 1.65s) Mallory dual point distributor Exhaust: added 2 1/2 inch factory hi-flow performance manifolds, mufflers, and dual exhaust "X" crossover section. Transmission: rebuilt long-shaft Muncie M20, coupled to Hurst 4-speed shifter (very smooth shifting all gears up and down). The brakes and 342 posi rear were rebuilt during the frame-off restoration. Issues: The car runs smooth and strong, but at this point it is not "perfect". If I were to keep the car I would fix the following: The convertible top works well however the fit could be better, not sure whether to start new or whether it can be smoothed out otherwise. The clock and AM radio receive power but do not work. Perhaps a simple wiring problem to the speakers, need to check plus radio testing out of car. Slight ticking like a valve tap at idle RPM, need to debug this. Questions: Feel free to ask any questions and/or see the car in person. Additional photos available upon request. Terms of Sale: Payment to be made by Paypal or certified check. An initial $500 non-refundable deposit is required within 48 hours of auction end, balance to be paid in full within 7 days of auction end.
