Vehicle Detail

1926 Model T "Fordor" Ford Sedan offered by deaccession from the Highland Park Historical Society, Highland Park IL. Reluctantly, the vehicle is offered due to need for space for other items. It has been in our collection for some decades, and had been driven yearly in parades and other special events until about 3 years ago. The following is from a condition report of 3 years ago, but reflects the current condition accurately: Condition: Fair + or 3-4 on collector's condition scale as used by the local Model T club (Chicago). Sheet metal has only one small reworked ding in rear fender. Roof, plating on bumpers, and radiator shell all are excellent. Interior upholestery, possible need for repainting of wheel spokes and side door (where paint is peeling), some trim replating or replacement are needed for full restoration. This car is a very good candidate for restoration, as the vast majority of parts and sheet metal are thought to be original. Body Exterior Details: Glass has not been replaced with safety glass. L rear fender has a small dent. R rear door has peeling paint. Headlight rims need to be replaced or redone. Left front door should be repainted for appearance. Wheels should be repainted for appearance. Engine compartment appearance is not at collector-level. Body Interior Details: All upholstery should be replaced except headliner which may be suitable as-is. Window guide felts should be replaced. Nickel quadrants and arms should be replated. The vehicle has not been driven since 2005 and has been standing in-place in a garage for approximately 4 years. The battery is dead. The car had primarily been used in parades once a year. The car was operational until then. The car is being sold as-is. The vehicle can be inspected on-site by appointment, and ideally should be inspected before bidding. Transportation will be the responsibility of the buyer. We have limited contacts for both local and distance transportation and will assist to the extent possible, but transportation arrangements including cost will be the responsibility of the buyer. The car is sold "as is, where is" for restoration. There is no assurance that it can be started or will run at this time, or is safe for operation as a motor vehicle. The need for flatbed transport to the new location should be assumed. If a buy-now price is desired, please feel free to contact us. Listed mileage is just an estimate. There is no odometer on this car. It was acquired in 1986 and had minimal use thereafter. Additional images are available on request. Direct discussion of the condition of the car also can be arranged. On Nov-21-10 at 14:32:34 PST, seller added the following information:The Highland Park Historical Society is a not for profit, 501(C)3 organization. A portion of the final purchase price may be tax deductible for federal tax purposes for that reason. Please consult current IRS regulations or confer with a qualified individual for details. On Nov-26-10 at 09:33:41 PST, seller added the following information: Some Additional Information, to respond to various questions: 1. CLEAR TITLE: the vehicle has CURRENT title AND license in Illinois as an antique vehicle. The title has no liens, is in the name of the Highland Park Historical Society, and was issued in the 1980s. The license as an antique vehicle is current. Remember, if your state requires emissions testing for antique vehicles, it may not be possible to license the vehicle there unless emission related modfication is made. 2. BUY NOW: this option no longer can be offered. 3. ENGINE seized or not: Tested today with the hand crank in 20 degree weather. Engine turns over very freely and the transmission also is not locked up. The car stopped running as noted above, due to a carburation or electrical failure. No further diagnosis was done, but it did crank freely at attempts then to restart, as it does now. The battery probably was overcharged (original type battery) and probably will need to be replaced. The engine was NOT given any special preservative treatment then to now (about 4 years time) and the car was stored in an unheated garage. It is possible that the generator or voltage regulator was not working properly and caused the engine to die, but this is not clear. It was used only for short runs, and even if the generator and voltage regulator were working, the level of use probably was not enough to charge the battery. 4. Tires: These are old and have surface cracking, but in general are not treadbare. They would need to be replaced for actual road use. One tube may have a slow leak.
