Vehicle Detail

NOTE: Apparently, ebay is having a challenge with hackers of some type in their system, as for the second time a false, unregistered "bidder" has ended my listing at the Buy-it-Now price. Ebay seems to be aware of this, as they have retracted these bids and credited listing fees...although it has take several days. I am re-listing again as I'd like to get this done. If you're interested, please feel free to send questions (and to the gentleman who sent several questions...I will answer in short time. Thanks. Well...3rd time is the charm! I have gone back and forth over the past several months on whether to sell my beloved Mi16...and alas, it shall be done. I have toyed with keeping it for my up-and-coming 15-yr old who has his learner's permit. My wife and I will insist that our kids learn to drive a manual transmission early on. Well, we're still over 6 months away, and it is just not practical to keep a 3rd car that long - and I am NOT an under-the-hood guy and there are not an abundance of Peugeot-savvy 'mechaniques' here in big D...so...my loss is your gain. Overall, this 405 Mi16 has a strong engine, a solid transmission (incl good clutch), and mostly-functional comfort equipment. I have said to many a friend and neighbor that this car has better driving characteristics than any car I've ever owned...wonderful light yet firm steering and handling and a pleasure to whip around. She won't scare any Mustang GTs off the line, but get out on a twisty country road and she's a pleasure to drive. EXTERIOR: Original white paint has fade sections down the front hood and trunk-noticeable up close but not offensive from normal sight distance. Put 4 new General Exclaim UHPs on under 2000 miles ago...one fell victim to a sidewall screw and can be replaced for ~$100. A decent used tire on there now and doesn't materially affect driving or performance. Front glass has a 15-18" crack on passenger side that was there when I purchased almost 5 years ago and hasn't grown. No rust evident and the sheet metal is pretty clean for an almost-20 year old car - yes, there are little dings and nicks, but not at all obvious. Headlight lens covers are CLEAR - not crazed / replace by Peugeot under warranty long ago. One foglight works. Original Mi16 rims. Great-looking sedan. INTERIOR: Leather seats are 20 years old...not supple but generally intact. Driver's seat has some tears at the seams and backseat tops are a bit faded from the Arizona/now Texas sun. Headliner in good shape...just started to pull away a bit above back windshield - won't take much to pin down or glue - it is not hanging down. Dash has center crack (again...the summer sun at work). Gearshift knob 'melted,' which also happened to my '89 405 years ago...still enough to hold onto to shift easily. Emergency brake just recently became inoperable. All power windows and switches operate well, and sunroof works perfectly. Power mirrors work...a/c cycles but doesn't blow cold and fan works only on high speed. Heat works just fine. Quite honestly, I've never tried the heated seats as I haven't had the need. Carpet is fine and, other than wear areas in driver area, is blemish-free. There is no radio in car at present - it had an after-market CD player but was stolen when at a repair shop in Phoenix (thanks again whoever you are). There are separate keys for ignition, doors and trunk...must have been re-keyed at one time - I have all 3 so no worries. MECHANICALLY: As indicated, the engine runs strong. I have to jiggle the starter fuse at times to start car...a fellow Peugeot enthusiast graciously described what he did to remedy the same issue...I just haven't replaced the plastic piece that holds the fuses firmly in place (the fuse box in the engine compartment). Although not a major repair, it is an annoyance that the new owner is going to want to take care of. I do know of one shop here in Dallas that once worked on Peugeots (he is French)...I've contacted him once and I think he could take care of it. I'm sure anyone handier than I (which means most people!) can do it themselves. The muffler is good, but I think there is a small exhaust leak, as there is a slight growl to the engine - not terrible loud...doesn't bother me a bit but just trying to be thorough. I bought car in spring 2006 in Seattle and had a Peugeot shop there to inspection/tune-up/all fluids and filters at that time before driving down to Phoenix, where I lived until 2008. In 2008, trailered car to Austin, where Revolution Motors (Peugeot-authorized shop) did similar maintenance plus replaced power steering components (had been leaking).New alternator and (w/ lifetime warranty) and battery in past yearRegular oil changes (using on-line ordered oil filters) -I hope I've adequately described the good and the challenges - overall, it is a nice 405 / still a pleasure to drive. Note: (0) feedback bidders must email prior to bidding...thank you! I am happy to assist your chosen shipper / I have clear title and it is currently registered in Texas (expires soon). Thanks for looking and good luck.
