Vehicle Detail
FUZZY DICE AUTOS Has up for auction an amazing rare collector car! In the early twenties, Austin saw the need for a low cost sturdy automobile for the masses, much like Americas Model T and Model A Ford series. Thus the Austin 7 was introduced to fill that need. With its sturdy frame and no nonsense mechanicals, it soon became popular with a myriad of body styles and variations. The 750 cc flat head engine (without a water pump) produced 13 horsepower, and with a magneto ignition, a battery was excess baggage, Because of the high production, low cost and sturdy frame, modifications were inevitable. Hence, the “Special” was born. Some modifications were factory options while others came out of coach shops and local garages. This particular example was not factory made, but it’s hand formed aluminum body was made by a skilled craftsman in England. The metal covers a wooden framework and floor. The engine has twin SU carbs and a high compression aluminum head. A tuned exposed exhaust completed the speed package. A battery was later added that now makes starting her a breeze. Open fenders graced different sized wire wheels and small headlights and tail lights make up the appearance group. The safety package consisted of replacing the cable and rod mechanical brakes with all wheel hydraulic units. The current owner found the car stored away in a secure warm building where it stayed for many years. He later learned through research that it had been re-bodied in the very early thirties, probably as early as 1931. The body still wears its original paint from the early thirties and still shines nicely. There are several small areas where minor chipping is evident but one would need to be close up to see them. Much mechanical work was done to make her road worthy. I personally drove this amazing car. I must admit I had a difficult time putting her away. The car drove strong, straight and stopped on a dime. The four-speed non-syncro transmission shifted effortlessly through all the gears. Although only eight feet in overall length and four feet wide, without too much difficulty my six foot frame fit in the right hand steering cockpit. The under carriage is rust and damage free. Photos can be provided to those serious potential buyers. This magnificent find is totally street legal and can be driven anywhere. The aluminum body is in amazing condition as is the wooden frame and inner body. The very old leather seats, rubber floor mats and dash are all excellent. The gauges and all the lights work as they should. The beautiful brass front marker lights and fuel filler valve and car shine brilliantly. This extremely rare example has taken first place in just about every classic car show and top honors in a very prestigious Pennsylvania event. (Note the dash plate) There is much to say about this rare find so please don’t hesitate to call or email with your questions. Unlike most classic car dealers who photograph their cars in professionally lighted studios or on Hollywood driveways, we at Fuzzy Dice shoot our pictures on our property using only a point and shoot camera. So what you see is precisely what you get. Those of you who are first-time ebay clients will need to contact us before placing your bid. BEST OF LUCK BIDDING!
