Up for auction is an original 1965 Alfa Romeo 1600 Giulia Spider Normale. Vin # AR 392187. I received the following email from the Alfa Romeo Archives confirming the following information: with reference to your request we are informing you as follows. According to our documentation files, the chassis number AR 392197 originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider (101.23), manufactured on the 20th November 1964 and sold on the 20th April 1965 to Alfa Romeo Inc., Newark, USA. The body colour is red, with black interiors. Yours, Sincerely, Marco Fazio The Giulia and Giulietta Spider's are becoming one of the most desireable production Alfa's available today. They are appreciating nicely and premium examples are commanding very high values. With that said, this Giulia represents a wonderful opportunity for the Alfisti that always wanted a Giulia, but could not afford their appreciating values. This Giulia was always a "driver", and after 45 years one could say she held up pretty good. The Giulia had remained in the same family for many years and was passed through the family. The Giulia had been going through an amateur restoration which has been partially completed, however the Giulia should undergo a proper restoration and bring her back to her former glory. The Alfa had been in storage for about the last 5 years due to needing rear brake work, and has not been driven since. The body is in good original condition. There really isn't any body rust, and there are no dents to speak of. There really isn't any evience of body damage or accident repair that I can see. There is some evidence of repair on the wheel arches. The body is straight and the panel fit is good. Doors both fit nicely. Both rear tail lights need to be replaced due to being cracked. The paint is amateur quality and would be considered fair. When the restoration work was done, there were new exterior rocker panels put on, however the inner rockers were not repaired properly. There was some boxed stainless steel welded in for strength. The floors are in bad shape and a portion had been cut out for repair and never completed. As you can see in the pictures, it will need a full set of floors as well as the inner rockers done. The trunk will need the typical repairs where the battery mounts. The interior is in fair condition at best. The seats are GTV "Flying Buttress" Seats, and are in poor condition. The originals did not come with the car. The passenger seat is not mounted. Also, the guages are not original - they are from an early GTV, but at least they are all functioning. The original steering wheel is cracked and has been taped underneath the steering wheel cover. The glass is in good shape including the windshield. The convertible top is in serviceable conditon with no major rips or tears that I can recall. The frame is in good shape as well. The engine is in running condition, but the carburetor is leaking badly. The clutch is in working condition. The rear brakes were in the process of being repaired when the Alfa was put in storage, and they still have not been fixed. The shoes need to be relined. Therefore, the car does not stop at the present time. The car rolls easily, so there are no issues with the brakes binding. The front and rear bumpers are all in good original condition. Eyebrows and grill in pretty good shape and all fit nicely. Exterior door handles in good shape. The front hood hinges are in good original condition. One of the trunk hinges is broken, and the other is not mounted on the car, but will be included. As stated this Giulia represents a wonderful opportunity to be brought back to it's former glory. To be clear, it will need a full restoration. The body is solid, but will need floors and rockers done. It will also obviously need the mechanicals to be gone through as well. Since the Alfa has all of the important trim pieces, it will be an easy restoration for the Alfisti that needs something to do this winter! If you always wanted a Giulia or Giulietta, this may be the perfect project car for the budget minded enthusiast. These cars are easy to restore when you have all the bits, and truly represent an excellent investment that will be sure to appreciate and outpace the market.
