1966 Ford Mustang Coupe Very Nice and Thorough Recent Restoration, Close to 20K Invested without Labor, Fortune in Receipts, 9" Rear End, Disk Front Brakes, 302 V8, New or Rebuilt Everything, Superb Driver Condition and Head Turner year 1966 drive train Rear Wheel Drive make Ford ext color Silver model Mustang int color Black sub model Coupe vin 6f07t183816 engine 302 V8 mileage 92607 transmission Automatic stock # BB10713 about This is a lot of fun, we don't do too many classic cars, but this one was too pretty and too good of a deal to pass up. This vehicle was built and restored by a retired mechanic over the last 5 years as a hobby car, and out of family necessity it had to be traded off for an SUV for a mere fraction of what investment cost was. The gentleman has brought in over $12,000 in parts receipts, with close to $20k invested and likely many many hundreds of hours in labor not included. I'm not a Mustang fanatic, so, you'll have to ask questions if you have them, but I'll do the best I can. The car was originally a 6-cylinder. It's been converted to a 302 car and does not have all matching numbers. It now has a C4 trans which may or may not be original to the car. Most importantly it's has a disk brake conversion for the front, and the 9" Ford rear end. I believe I have most everything needed for a fuel injection conversion for this car, I have the bulk if not all of the wiring harness, aluminum 2 piece Ford 5.0 intake manifold, fuel rail, and injectors setup for fuel injection conversion if you'd like to have it. Naturally it would need to be wired, installed, and a fuel pump installed as well. (I also have a factory A/C vent box for the cab if you want it.) The car has undergone a pretty thorough restoration, under, inside, and out. Pretty well everything has been either rebuilt or replaced, which should be evident in the photos. The car is a great driver-grade car. It's not a show car, but you could certainly put it in most any show and still have people come by smiling and talking to you about it. I've had more compliments than I can count in the last 200 miles I put on it. exterior This car spent its' life in Texas before Colorado and it was a pretty well rust-free vehicle to begin with. There were a few places in the rockers, trunk, and floor pan which were cut out and new panels welded in, so there should be very little chance of future rust if you keep her out of the salt. (We don't salt the roads in Colorado.) A small fortune was spent on body work and the car is really quite straight. The fit and finish is good, not show quality, but again, very much driver quality and respectable. It has been cut once but may need to be blocked and color sanded/buffed for perfect shine. There is very very light orange peel at present, only car nuts would ever notice. The photos really document the car well, the paint job and body are nice, underside of the doors and finish in the inside of the hinge jamb area is reasonable, but not fantastic. The gutters all came out pretty clean, lines straight overall, etc. The chrome is all pretty nice, bit of aging here and there, but bumpers look real nice, think I have a few missing trim strips which just haven't been installed. The glass is all presentable, rear and sides are a tiny bit frosty. The windshield is real good though. The wheels are fair, knockoffs, tires have obviously good tread. The lower rockers have a bit of pitting down underneath, slightly more noticeable on the passenger side. I'm not sure how many miles its' had on it since paint, but my guess would be 3-5,000. The right side front lower door corner has a few bubbles in the paint, looks more like paint separation than rust, and I don't think it will get worse. There's no dents or scratches, no noticeable rock chips either. interior The interior is lovely. For a non-professional job it came out really good. Obviously most everything has been redone or replaced. The headliner and carpet are perfect, upholstery looks wonderful. The dash and doors are presentable driver-quality. The lights all work inside, heater functions fine, drivers window goes up and down fine, passenger and rear windows are a bit harder to operate, but still go up and down ok, drivers door lock may need some adjustment, but works, ignition and keys and cylinders I believe to have all been replaced. The stereo is new, and works fine. The gas gauge reportedly is empty at 1/4 tank. I have not verified this myself. The horn is inop. The wipers work, but one is slower than the other, just barely, no big deal. I don't think the reverse lights work, but I'm pretty sure everything else does, both inside and out. The trunk came out nice, re-tooled up, sprayed, and lined. The engine compartment is very clean, no rust anywhere on the fender inners, everything all detailed and looking fresh. This is one you can put the hood up on at the shows and people will love to come by and have a peep; very presentable. mechanical The car runs out very well. I've put 200 miles on it. The carb is pretty well tuned, takes only a few revs to idle it out smooth when it's real cold outside. The car has a very mild cam for daily driving. It drives nice and straight, plenty of power, tranny shifts fine every time. The brakes definitely feel better than 4 wheel drums, but you're reminded frequently of the age of the car. No power steering! The car is very easy to drive in my opinion, easy to stay up with traffic and keep it in the lane. Most of the suspension and componetry underneath has been replaced. The rear end isn't noisy. The exhaust is new, great sounding and throaty but not obnoxious. This is a friendly car, not a highly modded sports car. It's a daily driver. It will need some fine tuning if you're a fanatic, I wouldn't mess with it. There is a very very very slight vibration at idle and at highway speed. It may be 1 or 2 things. The gentleman that traded it said he though the highway vibration might be the driveshaft, but it's been balanced professionally recently, so I doubt that. My mechanic seems to think it may be the flywheel, either a lost weight, or maybe not the exact proper flywheel to mate up this particular motor and trans. If you are a perfectionist, you will need to address this. I am picky myself and wouldn't bother, it's barely noticeable. I just don't need any surprises. comments This is a restored 44 year old car. It will have some "personality" above and beyond what you'd expect in a late model car. I feel it's a steal at this price, but please know what you're buying and feel free to contact with questions.
