Vehicle Detail
For auction is my beautiful and original Toyota pick up. I’m the original owner and bought it while serving in the military from Toyota of Escondido, Ca. at age 28. It was the base model 4 speed truck w/o air conditioning, radio, etc. It’s definitely a gas miser and gets 30 MPG Hwy at 60 MPH. It’s always been parked indoors from day one, never in a wreck or fender bender, and currently is Missouri licensed w/ state inspection. My goal was to keep it until I retired in 2000, but it’s been so reliable that I could never bring myself to sell it. It’s never failed to start or get me to my destination I’m extremely meticulous about everything I own and this truck is no exception. The paint is all original, holds a brilliant shine, and is not faded whatsoever. The interior is absolutely outstanding in all areas. Here are some of the additional features I’ve added over the years: 1. Rhino spray in bed liner w/ adjustable motorcycle wheel choke: “excellent condition” 2. New Tacoma factory 15 wheels w/ Michelin LTX /AT Tires: “like new” 3. Bilstein Shocks “gas charged and German made” 4. Nakamichi CD-300 w/ Bose Mobile Monitors “rear” and factory dash mount speakers. “excellent sound quality” Installed by a Toyota Technician using the factory harness. 5. Vertex VX-3000 VHF FM 4 channel programmable 2 way radio. 6. Premium factory cut carpeting that replaced vinyl flooring. “excellent condition w/ no stains or wear” 7. NOS factory floor mats. “excellent condition w/ no stains or wear” 8. The bench seat was professionally refurbished in 2001 at a cost of $500.00. It maintains all original stitching lines and is covered in a heavy duty gray Dupont tweed material, rather than vinyl. The original gray vinyl was fine but too darn hot in a Midwest summer. “no stains, wear, etc.” Moving onto maintenance: I’ve always used synthetic oils throughout to include the drive train and brake system. The coolant is changed every other year using Toyota brand coolant w/ distilled water. The coolant system itself has no rust or corrosion whatsoever. The timing chain was replaced at 160K before rattling or a failure occurred as suggested by our Toyota dealer. It now has solid chain guides, Toyota chain & gears, and is factory tight. All coolant hoses and the thermostat were replaced at 5 year intervals. The ignition coil was replaced at 100,000 mile intervals. The distributor cap, rotor, sparkplug wires and brake fluid were replaced or changed at 50,000 intervals. The fuel filter and air filter yearly. The brakes, wheel bearings, clutch, clutch reservoir, hydraulic actuator, and release bearing were all replaced for the second time at 200K. I’ve not touched the carburetion other than routine cleaning because it starts, runs, and idles like new. I’ve probably lost count of how many times I’ve changed oil and sparkplugs over the years. Moreover, it doesn’t leak or burn a drop of oil, period. I’ve always used Toyota factory parts where applicable and performed all maintenance systematically rather than wait until something fails. Obviously it has some flaws so I’ll attempt to describe them in detail: It has a dent on the hood where some J/O backed and ran in our Lowe’s parking lot. The sad thing is that I park away from vehicles too…….. You can see it in the photo. No dents other than that. The low setting on the heater switch doesn’t work and hasn’t for years. It has three higher settings that work fine. I never felt like taking the dash apart to replace the switch for a one heat level setting. There’s no spare tire. I removed it when I got the Tacoma wheels. It was the original 14 inch bias ply tire mounted up under the bed which warped from non-use and being too tight from the factory. If I go on a long trip, I just throw a space saver doughnut in the bed. The original jack and crank handle remains mounted behind the seat “never used”. There’s some slight rust “paint bubbles” beginning to develop along the bed seams. These beds are just notorious for rust even though I’m retired and never drive it in the snow and crappy weather. I had the bed repaired in 2004 but now the paint is beginning to do the same thing again. I keep this truck as clean as a pin too! Everything else is in operational and impeccable condition. Why am I selling this one might ask??? Simple; I’m 50, retired, own three SUVs, four motorcycles, a Corolla, ski boat, and no longer have a place to keep it in the garage. My wife and I must constantly maneuver around the Corolla and Truck just to get out of the garage. The Corolla belongs to my daughter and will be gone when she goes to college next year. Bottom line, this is probably one of the best examples of the 80’s model “Japanese Made” truck that hasn’t been raced, modified, abused, or neglected. This is a turn key vehicle that can be driven anywhere and not touched for a year “minus an oil change perhaps”. I drove it to and from San Diego last fall. That was a 4000 mile round trip, and the only thing I did was change the oil upon my return. Also included is the original service manual, also in excellent condition. I can be reached at (573) 855-1819 for any specific questions at anytime. Please DO NOT call and insult my intelligence by trying to talk me down in price. My opening price is WAY MORE than reasonable for this model truck in this condition.
