Vehicle Detail
When I bought this truck, it was pretty rusty. I spent mega time and effort to make repairs to the body and its structure, with lots of new steel behind the door frames and also on the body subframe. The body has a subframe that allows some structural rigidity as that then sits on the rubber mounts on the frame. The truck has the original rubber mounts. Not raised. The frame is excellent, which is why I purchased this first year Bronco. Many of them have bad frames, pitted all the way thru, this one is great, literally. I rebuilt the door post structures, then overlaid new material to pretty much like original, except that the early doors were a bit different, and I used newer doors from a '74. This meant moving the door locks a bit as the new ones were replaced. Doors now open and close correctly, and are tight. Most of the underneath is clean and painted. I have not cleaned the transfer case or trans, since they did not need to come out. I disassembled the steering column for repairs to the shift linkage. Decided to keep the original column shift, but they do make floor mounts for shifters. Truck runs and drives pretty well. The tires are in good shape but get flat spots from not enough use, so that aggravates the steer issues. The first things I did were to replace the drag links that are now good. Then put in all new polyurethane bushings on the front axle.....a big job.....the whole thing needs to basically come out to get to all of them. All new brake lines and all cylinders. Clean fuel tank with new sending unit. New carb and fuel pump, main headlight switch, water pump, and on it goes. I have front/back bumpers and lots of other used parts for it. Note that on the interior there are new floor pans and sound insulations and full bolted down rubber mat in the front. The seats are original Bronco seats. It's a great restoration project. I have run out of time to work on it and I need to pass it on so that the job gets done! I have invested way more money into the Bronco than I will ever get out of it, but I enjoyed the work along the way!
