First of all thanks everyone for checking out our auction on this rare driver quality AMC,Spirit GT,factory 304,4 speed,a/c car. First let me start off by decoding the vin numbers for you : A 9 M 4 3 7 H 139973 AMC 79 4SPD SPIRIT 2 DR LIFT LIMITED 304 CID 2 BBL SEQUENTIAL SERIAL NUMBER DOOR TAG MODEL 7943-7 1979 2 DR LIFT BACK LIMITED TRIM PAINT CODE 9C RUSSETT METALLIC This is a wonderful car not a show car but driver quality with lots of potential and very rare. This Spirit runs great and almost everything works,the headlights,tail lights,brake lights,cigarette lighter,hazards,horn,wipers,washers,gauges,speedo,gas gauge,oil light,seatbelt light,dome light,dual adjustable interior mirrors and cold a/c,.The car drives really nice runs highway speeds no problem,cold a/c,nice stereo with remote and upgraded speakers,stock stereo is still there works but disconnected,the keys work both doors ignition and the hatch,remote hatch is innop needs motor.The exterior has a repaint that was done about 7 years ago and is average but presentable,the undercarriage is clean please see pics,the interior is in great shape for its age,no rips or tears except for the carpet which is worn mostly under the drivers side,but once again just well preserved but not show quality. I bought the car from a great guy and an AMC enthusiast that raced them for many years here are a couple of the upgrades he has done over the last four years: custom 2 1/4 dual exhaust, Edelbrock performer manifold, 600 edelbrock carb, upgraded electronic ignition, front rotors, pads and calipers, rear pads and drums cut, radiator, a/c compressor and condensor. I purchased this car with the intentions of keeping it and you never see one this nice come up for sale but we have too many projects and must let it go,its a pleasure to drive i have driven it over 50 miles on the highway cruising speeds and it drives nice and straight. I am not sure if the numbers match but i beleive they do i did some research and found the 304 stamping on the block,replacements did not have the stamp,see the pic,the trans and rear end look all original and correct,to see the block number the a/c compressor has to come off,there is the original owners manual and warranty papers are all intact in the original dealer envelope.This car also comes with an inside hood latch which was an option you dont see very often,the ralley wheels are in great shape the drivers rear beauty ring is a little dinged up but once again not a show car but a rare factory,4 speed,304,a/c car.The car drives great,handles well,all the glass is excellent,brakes well but i do beleive it will need a master cyclinder booster it has the feeling like air is in the lines and only noticeable on hard braking but still stops well.Over all the car is very presentable no dings or scratches but to be show quality would have to be restored.Note 1: Total is for all Spirit and AMX production. 3,657 were AMX (which was available with six or V-8, Liftback only), 16,237 four cylinder, 36,241 six cylinder, and 3,893 V-8.
