We are sad but it is time to put our spunky2005 Liberty CRD Diesel up for sale. These were only sold in the U.S. for two years ('05 and '06) before the '07 clean diesel regulations made things even worse in the world of oil burning. This does not have any Diesel Particulate Filter or any of that crap. This has the 4-cylinder turbo diesel made by VM Motori, a quality Italian-made motor. It has a modern Common Rail Diesel injection system and requires no lubricity additive for the new low-sulphur Diesel fuel. It can run on the old style diesel fuel as well just fine. It has a 5-speed automatic transmission. At about 160hp it does not have the top end power of the 3.7 gas liberty, but its 295 ft-lb of low end torque blows it away and is superior for everyday driving. It's like a V-8 torque blast when you squeeze the pedal. It really has guts. This one has the good transfer case with 2-wheel, part-time 4-wheel, AND full-time ALL-Wheel drive, so yes you can drive it on the street in all wheel, like in the rain, etc.. but it's a waste on dry roads. This thing did well in the deep snow last winter on 4 bald tires BEFORE we got these. We bought this at about 75k from the original and only owner because our Wrangler was an awesome vehicle but really sucky on fuel for commuting. This Liberty can get in the mid 20's nearing 30mpg depending on how you drive it. The original owner was an older gentleman and took great care of it and had almost all of the maintenance and repair done by dealer (including all recall work). He had a trailer brake setup put on (good for 5000lb trailer) and all you have to do to use it is reinstall the electric controller that I took off the dash. It has a 2" receiver hitch. The Jeep has had all of its computer updates and the following repairs/service since we have had it: Just did front brake pads and new rotors. New serpentine belt and tensioner. New alternator. Brand new all-terrain rear tires, fronts ok. Upgraded to larger 245/70/16 tire size. New air filter, just did it. Oil/filter changed at appropriate intervals. (manual calls for 6,250-12000 miles depending on duty) Cleaned boost pressure (manifold pressure) sensor since they get sooty. (you can keep the Mass Air Flow sensor unplugged to stop the EGR from working and mitigate this problem, that is its only purpose) It's not a factory service item but should be done frequently, like at oil changes, It's very easy to do I can show you how. New oil pressure sending unit. Replaced Hazard/blinker module. Aftermarket stereo head unit with MP3 and input jack. New fuel filter. New turbo-intercooler boost/air hose. And anything else I can think of.. I will update.. the more serious of these items we had done by the dealer because it was just easier, even though I am good at working on vehicles. Previous owner even had installed an active anti-corrosion system (leave it to the old guys!!) Now for the bad news: The interior is kind of stained.. we have a 5 year old child. There is a dent in the driver's door.. from a hit and run parking lot A-hole.. not real bad, the window still works fine. Minor dings and scrapes. Sounds like a bushing needs to be replaced or some kind of mount tightened up under the body, there's a small noise once in a while, driving not affected. It could use two front tires and a matching spare relatively soon but will be fine to drive for a while. I will give you an additional size matched spare unmounted tire too. (the one on the back is the smaller size) Probably could use a battery in the near future but still works fine every day.. just looks old. There is a very slight oil seepage in the front under the driver side radiator area.. maybe a fitting for an oil cooler or the intercooler that needs to be snugged? It's so minor I never did anything about it. The aluminum rims have the peeling/corrosion common to this era Jeep. It has no sunroof.. but hey, the air blows cold. And anything else I can think of... I will update. It's a really neat configuration/platform.. a compact 4wd/AWD 4-cyl Turbo Diesel.. there should be more things like this but.. the oil companies have too much money to lose. You are likely considering this because you know what a Liberty CRD is.. know and research your vehicle as a good general rule before you buy if you are not already familiar. It comes with original manual AND a CD with the full tech/service manuals in searchable PDF. We are selling because we got a good deal on another vehicle that is more appropriate for our family.. FYI with winter coming or if you live in a colder climate. It always started well in the winter if you just mind the glow plug "wait" light.
