Vehicle Detail
The good the bad and the ugly. What you are bidding on is a classic 1972 BMW 2002. This car is one of the cars that started a wave of really great rally cars. Fixed up I have seen models of this car sell for over $20,000.00. This is not that car. I want to be totally up front. This car is FAR from mint condition. It needs work. Lots of it. My father bought this car in 2000 as an investment. It sat at a friends house until 2004 when he finally titled it in Tennessee. It was a good semi daily driver for 2 years until he got the great idea he could fix the traditional BMW rust spots himself. At one point he tried to pull it out from under the porch where he was working on it and jacked up the front passenger corner and grill area. I will be kind and say he did not get much farther before it became a project for another day. fter sitting under the back porch for another 4 years mom said it was time for it to go, so here it is. First the good. The odometer reads 55,000 but not being the first owner I will say TMU. The motor is a rock crusher. and is well known for its durability. As I said, the car was sitting out, without even starting it for over 4 years. I put a brand new battery in it, some fresh gas in the carb and it started first crank. Even I was surprised. I cleaned the carb for good measure and put new oil in it and a filter on it. I aired up the tires and drove it around the block a few times, took it through the gears and everything worked pretty well for a car that had been sitting that long with old gas. The interior is in very good to near mint condition for a car of its age. The seat and carpet look about brand new except a 1-2 inch rip in the passenger seat. See the pictures. The dash has some cracks. and the turn signal arm is broken off. The radio is good but needs to be hooked up to a new set of speakers. The tires are in good shape. 3 of the 4 hubcaps are in fair shape. The fourth is dinged up. I put air in the tires. It will hold for a few days, but not long term. Since I'm not in NY right now, some may be flat when you get there. There is a compressor there that you can use to air them up to get you home though. Only 2 of the tires seem to go flat. The other 2 hold air. Now the bad and the ugly. Lower your expectations. The exterior is rough, As in all the way around. A person who is good with bondo and paint could probably make it look fair again in a few days but I make no guarantees in any way shape or form. There are rust spots and bubbles all around the lower level, some small some large. The rear drivers side brakeline has a pinhole in it. I have the line to replace it, but have not installed it. It is included with the car. Some were bondoed (Badly) and painted over (with off color spray paint) in my fathers attempt to fix it himself. The front, rear valance and area around the grill are beyond saving and need to be replaced. The rear bumper is gone. As in not anywhere to be found. Most of the chrome is still there but it is dull. Some was removed and is in the trunk. The passenger side radiator shroud is bent and the light is gone. The front bumper is off and fair but not perfect condition. The drivers side glass has been replaced with 1/4 inch plexiglass but it is a pretty good job. I have tried to be as honest as possible. Still, I make no guarantees. I am listing this car as is, where is for my mom so if you have questions please call me (Stacey) (865)455-2627. If you wish to come inspect or test drive the car previous to bidding please do. I encourage it. The car is at 3 Perry Drive in Apalachin NY.Yes, I have clear title. Please don't bid if you are not serious.Once you bid I expect you to follow through. A nonrefundable $200.00 is due within 24 hours of sale. The rest is due within 72 hours. I can deliver the car in the triple cities or within 30 miles of Binghamton. (About 70 miles to Syracuse) but outside of that you are on your own. The plates are 4 years old and I don't need a ticket. The reserve is $500.
