Vehicle Detail

This vehicle was 1st imported into Atlanta Georiga by the RBM Mercedes dealership in Buckhead. The car was bought new by American Air Force General Plumer's widow. My Uncle noticed the car in Mrs. Plumer's garage as he passed by often while attending Georgia Tech many years ago. The General's widow, Helen, was elderly and rarely drove the car. One year, my grandfather, Paul Efstration, went to visit his son, my uncle, at school and stopped in to inquire about the vehicle. The beautiful 250SE sat in the garage covered and undriven. He asked Mrs. Plumer if she was interested in selling the car, and she told him that at the time, she wasn't. My grandfather left his name and number so that she could call him if she ever changed her mind. A year later she called, and he and my grandmother drove down to Atlanta to pick up the car. He changed all the fluids in the car, aired up the tires, and drove the 250SE back from Atlanta. He purchased the car in 1972, and the car had 5,500 ORIGINAL miles on it. My grandparents drove the car for many years, and it always proved to be a very reliable and comfortable vehicle. As my grandfather turned 80 years old, he handed over his driving license to us, and the car once again sat (covered in our carport). The car has not been driven in nearly 6 years, and with my grandfather's passing, the time has come for us to pass this classic along to someone else that can enjoy it. The car currently has 167,871 miles on it. This is an original 4Door 1968 Mercedes 250SE. The vehicle is equiped with an Inline, 6 cylinder, fuel injected engine. It also has an automatic transmission. The interior is fully equiped for its time with power locks, windows, air conditioning, and many many other options that were state of the art for its time. The interior is in exceptional shape. The wood trim is actually real wood. It has a column mounted automatic shifter lever, which seems rare for its time (many others ive seen were floor mounted). The trunk still houses the original tools, jack, and spare tire. The vehicle has not been driven in nearly 6 years so the fluids will need to be changed, the ignition system tuned up, brakes bled, and various other mantinence performed before it is safely road worthy. For that reason, the car should be picked up/ towed home. The vehicle does start and run smoothly, and the transmission shifts perfectly. The power steering works well, and all other parts function as intended. The paint is in exceptional shape for its age. One note is that in the pics, you will notice one of the driver's side headlight reflectors is missing.. Rest assured i have a replacement, and just didn't get it installed before taking the pics. Also, the interior is a little dusty from sitting, and i didn't have a chance to clean it up before taking the pics. It will clean up very nicely though... This is an extremely rare classic, that will require very very little effort (Fluid changed and tune up) to make road worthy again. I would prefer that payment be made at the exchange of the title. I would however like a 300.00 deposit to be sent within 48 hours of the auction's close so that i know the buyer is serious before I invite a stranger over to my house to pick up the car. Any questions can be directed to NikleinR6@yahoo.com.. This is a NO RESERVE auction and i set the minimum at a very low 2500.00. The high bidder will win this vehicle.. Thanks very much, and good luck bidding... On Sep-28-10 at 08:33:48 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: I've just added some pics of the interior. You can see in the pics that the interior is in excellent condition for its age. Also note how Mercedes used real wood to trim out the dash, door panels , interior window frames, and windshield. You can also see how they used chrome on the seat mechanisms, door switches, and dash...This truly is a magnificent automobile. Also, the reflector is installed in the drivers headlight. Good luck to everyone...
