Vehicle Detail
I am regretfully selling this 1968 Ford Mustang GT, J code, vin #8F01J161947. It will sell without a title. Alabama did not require titles in 1968. I purchased the car Dec. 2009 with intentions to restore, but shortly after became disable and now have it up for auction. This is to my knowledge an original GT coupe with factory air, power steering and frt. disc. brakes. Although the repair records show that the original frt. brake calipers were replaced with stainless steel calipers. I have repair records from 1986-present. It is a J code,(302 4v V8 engine), to my knowledge is the original. Also a C4 Automatic Transmision. I have remove the console and carpet, checking for rust. It will need the rt. and left front floor panels repaired although there is very little rust through. From my inspection 98% of the rust you see, is only light surface rust other than the frt floor panels and a small spot on the left qt. panel in frt. of the rear tire as you can see in the pictures. The interior other than the carpet is in good shape with no tears in the seats or head liner. The dash pad is cracked and will need replaceing. All glass is good other than the left rear will not roll up completely. I have replaced the gas tank asembely, plugs, plug wires, distrubutor, battery and a carburator rebuild kit. The car has been runing until recently it pushed two of the rocker studs up and I had a machine shop repair but did not fix all the problem. It will start but runs rough. I had the cylinder compression checked and #1 through #7 where from 130psi to 150psi. The #8 cly. was 210psi. I was told this could be due to a collapsed exhaust lifter on #8 with the high compression not alowing the valve to fully open. The motor does not smoke and with a good mechanic can be 100% with little expence. If you are looking for a nice project that you want have to spend three arms and a leg this is it.
