Vehicle Detail

1975 LOWERED PRICE, SUMMER'S OVER, SO IT'S GOT TO GO. NEED TO MAKE ROOM 1975 FERRARI 308 GT4 DINO     This car is part of the fleet at Classic Car Club Manhattan. We are a private members' club where members join the club and drive our cars. Our members care for the cars as if they were their own, we are not a rental company and only our limited group of members drive our cars. We also employ a full-time staff of mechanics to check up on the cars and ensure that they remain in top mechanical condition. All cars are checked and fluids are leveled every time they go out with a member.     This car is a blast to drive and a great way to get into Ferraris without breaking the bank. This is not a concours car, but it is a fun driver with purposeful upgrades to the engine and suspension. This car makes a fantastic sound (see videos) and is a blast to drive. One of the previous owners lived across the street from Limerock Race Park in CT and set the car up to do 60sec laps. It's not for the faint of heart, it pops and spits, makes an angry sound and draws a crowd, but for the ambitious, enthusiastic driver, this is your car. The GT4 Chassis is arguably the best balanced of the 308/328s and this particular car with upgraded adjustable coilover suspension, heavy sway bars and poly / solid bushings is very tight and direct. This car is not perfect, it has several minor flaws as listed below, but does put a smile on your face and it is a reasonably priced entry into Ferrari ownership.     There is a lot of information in this listing (over 100 photos and 3 videos). If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me. I encourage all buyers to come see the car in person or send a third party inspector before buying. (Please Note, the first four photos were taken by a professional photographer a year ago and have been retouched).     Body   The body is solid in the important places and has been repainted at some point in its life, but does have several blemishes and some rust bubbles. Details are in the pictures, but for the broad strokes:   - There are numerous little dings (dime to quarter-size) around the body, several in the rear hood and a couple in the front hood   - There are several rust bubbles and a few cracks. These cars are very prone to rust, especially behind the wheels where moisture and dirt can collect. If you are looking at one, claimed to be "rust free", beware.... as unless it's had a rotiserie restoration with all rust removed, it's likely to have some problems in these spots.   - The front hood and lights have been painted and are just a ⅛ shade too light (you only notice if you're looking for it in bright light)   - There are a few spots where very small bubbles are forming near window seals, etc..   - Wheel finish is faded and worn.   - Passenger door hinge is worn making the door hang too heavy on the striker and it requires a bit of a lift to open   I accepted the current state of the body as part of the car's patina, but that may not suit all buyers. Paint should be considered at some point in the future.     Interior   - Recently Re-dyed all white components, looks great although some of the grain and cracks do show through (looks more authentic to it's age)   - Dash is perfect, smooth and supple with no cracks   - Carpets are good except for wear in the driver's foot well, nothing that couldn't be resolved with a set of floor mats     Engine   The engine runs very strong. The previous owner set this car up to go fast and while I do not have documentation for what he did, I can say from experience of driving other 308s that it worked. When you're on the gas, this car wants to go. What I will say though is that (like a race car) this car is a bit rough when you're off the gas... it pops and backfires a bit when you let off the gas (you can hear it in some of the videos). You will also hear that it does not pop at all when you're on the throttle... the backfiring is simply un-burnt fuel igniting in the exhaust and is common in high-performance, carbureted cars where the (unlike modern cars) there is less opportunity to tune the car to work well in various conditions... this car wants to go and it's most happy when you are going... when you're not, it sill runs fine, but will pop and spit a bit. I do not know when the last major service was done. Here's what I do know about the engine:   - These cars originally came with points ignition where each of the two distributors had two sets of points, one for low RPM and a second for high RPM. This was a pretty crude way to give spark advance at higher RPM and allow the car to run an aggressive tune at speed, but a more mild tune at low RPM (which would help it idle quietly in traffic) This system, while clever, was prone to failure, so the previous owner eliminated one set of points and the car is running only the advanced (high RPM) set... this probably accounts for most of the popping and spitting in low RPM, off-throttle conditions.   - We performed a full tune-up last summer (points, condensers, wires, caps, wires, rotors and rebuilt the carbs)   - This year we installed a new fuel pump and filter and reset the carbs   - This car does run a fairly open exhaust (I think some parts were custom built by previous owner) which lets the car run free at high RPM, but provides lower than stock back pressure at low RPM (again probably a factor for the slightly rough running at low RPM)     Transmission   The transmission shifts smoothly through the gears, but does make some minor gear noise. It was more noticeable when we first got the car and it quieted down after we flushed and replaced the gear oil.     Suspension, Steering and Brakes   Upgraded Suspension with adjustable coil-overs and heavy duty sway bars with heim joint end links and poly bushings. The car has a purposeful stance and great handling, but is still comfortable on the street. Brakes and steering components are all in order. No shakes or rattles and runs straight. New Yokohama tires last year.     Electrics   Everything works including the AC!     While this car is a driver, it is not "rough". I've put great effort into disclosing any imperfections I'm aware of which, sadly, not all sellers do. I've priced the car very resonalby and can assure any interested parties that it won't disappoint you if you come have a look in person.   I have done my best to honestly describe this car's condition, however, I strongly recommend you inspect it yourself or arrange for a third party to inspect it before purchasing. I will not take responsibility for any misinterpretation of this listing. This a 35 year-old vehicle and it is not perfect. Old cars are old cars and they are not as reliable as modern vehicles. It's also possible I've overlooked something when writing this listing or there are issues with the car that I accept as quirks of owing an older vehicle that I've failed to list. I have owned nearly 100 cars in the past five years and rarely have I bought an old car and not had to immediately do some work to make it suit my needs. If you are not prepared to accept some imperfections and do a little work, then you should not purchase an old car. I don't mean to discourage buyers, but owning an old car is a labor of love. Classic Car owners put their own blood, sweat, tears and money into making their cars what they are which is why they stand so proudly next to their cars at car shows, showing off the result of their hard work. If you want a car that's easy, get a new car on lease with a warranty and let the dealer handle the problems!   Video Starting       Video Accelerating on Highway       Videos Running in traffic         Detailed Pictures
