For auction is this 1958 Mercedes 180a for parts or restoration. I purchased this car to restore for my wife many years ago and drove it until the engine spun a bearing. She has since lost interest in the car so it has been sitting for several years (as I started restoring it), but is very complete except for the engine and transmission. The car is ideal to transplant a late model 4 cylinder engine and tranny. I do have some of the original engine components like the block, head, pistons, starter, generator, etc and the 4-speed transmission for an additional amount should the buyer want to restore the original configuration, but they are NOT included with this auction. What you will get is basically everything else. This car is very solid, but does have rust on the right side of the inner trunk pan as seen in the photos and the battery box, although you can see I have started to fabricate a replacement (it just needs to be welded in place). Some metal fabication/restoration under the vehicle was done several years ago as this is a weak area of these cars (in anticipation of restoration). The engine bay has been stripped in preperation of restoration, but I have detailed photos on where every wire, cable, hose, etc came from for reassembly. The car has 5 good wheels/tires/hubcaps, 2 new Bilstein rear shocks, 2 new heater cores, good brake shoes & drums, smooth running split rear end, and good (original) glass all around. The interior is all original except that the seats were recovered when I got it, still, they are in good shape. All the switches, ashtrays (front & rear), buttons, knobs, arm rests, window cranks, etc are all there and all original. All the guages in the instument panel worked the last time it was driven and even the original clock was working. The headliner, rear deck cover and door laces will need to be replaced. The doors are solid with no signs of rust even on the inner bottoms and all close solidly. The floor pans are solid, but the original gray rubber flooring is hard, cracked and will need to be replaced. The bumpers are straight and solid, including the over-riders, although there is pitting in the chrome and they will have to be rechromed. The car is located in North Carolina and the purchaser is responsible for picking it up here. I'd be more than happy to assist in loading the vehicle on a trailer or in any other way I can to expedite transportation.
