Vehicle Detail

This is a nice little Suzuki Samurai, similar to a Jeep in design. We originally purchased it in 2001, and it was used as a parts runner and errand truck for our landscape design/build company. It also had a 6' snoway plow for 3 years, when it was used to plow 3 small multi family rental properties in downtown Ann Arbor. The body is overall in nice condition but not perfect. for the first 10 years of it's life the Samurai was a Florida truck, and was very very clean when we purchased it. Being in Michigan has not been as kind, although it is still in very nice condition compared to most samurai's. No holes in the floor or body, and very little to no rust otherwise. The underside has some surface rust and scaling in places, although it still shows the original undercoating and red paint in most places. The paint is original, although certain places have been touched up and repainted. The passenger door was repainted and there is overspray visible if you look carefully. The hood was also repainted at one point. Otherwise, the paint is original to the vehicle and still shines up nicely, although not perfect by any means. The top is approx. 4 years old at this point, and is in good shape but not perfect. There is a 1" tear that has been patched. The stock 1.3 liter Suzuki engine was replaced with a 1.6 8 valve engine out of a Sidekick, which is a common and simple swap for these little trucks. The engine from the Sidekick had just over 90,000 miles. The engine runs nicely and does not smoke. It is fuel injected and starts right up without fail on the coldest mornings. Due to the older, single injector "shower head" style injection system, it will idle noticably high for the first minute or two until it warms up. There appears to be a minor oil seep at the valve cover gasket near the firewall, although there doesn't seem to be any noticable oil loss or usage. There is an A/C compressor mounted on the engine that was going to be used as an Air Compressor at one point. It has a doug thorley exhaust header and a K+N air filter also. The exhaust is in decent shape although it shows surface rust. The clutch was replaced with a centerforce unit when the engine was swapped ~6,000 miles ago. The transfer case and shifter bushings were replaced with bronze units as the stock ones had worn through. The rest of the driveline is tight and in good shape. 4 wheel drive high and low work well. The brakes are in decent shape and have plenty of pad life left, although I have noticed that the front rotors show surface rust due to sitting. Around 2004 a Calmini 3" spring lift was installed with new bushings, shackles, drop pitman arm, and HD shocks. At this time it also recieved the custom 6" bumpers, roof rack, and off road lights. The jumper cables on the front are relay- operated and installed at the same time. All of the turn signal and brake light/tail light are LED lights. The roof rack shows some surface rust in places and has been touched up. The 31x10.50" BF Goodrich Mud Terrian KO tires have about 75%+ tread left and are in nice shape. Mounted on stock 15" samurai wheels painted matching red. There is a basic 2" ball hitch for towing lighter items. The interior is in good overall shape. The front seats have been replaced with cloth units. The rear seat is vinyl, and has a split seam near the top ~4" long. Black carpet in the rear and bare floor in the front. Has nice hot heat in the winter, although there is no A/C. One door panel is ripped near the top. There is a basic CD player that works alright, although nothing special. All gauges, lights, and so forth work well. This is a reliable little unit that is fun to drive. I wouldn't hesitate to rely on it for daily transportation, although with a top speed of ~75-80 MPH any long commute might begin to be trying. Overall it's in pretty solid shape. Not perfect, but for a 20 year old vehicle it is very servicable. Feel free to call or email with more questions- Reid @734-945-9322
