Vehicle Detail

1949 Chevrolet "Loadmaster" 4400 1 1/2 ton flatbed truck. This is a great example of a solid vintage, medium duty truck. I am reportedly the 3rd owner. The truck spent most of it's life as a wheat truck in Kansas. Reportedly used only during harvest season and stored the remainder of the year in a barn. Based on it's condition, I have no reason to doubt it. This is the perfect truck for the gentleman rancher, or to promote your business, farmers market, etc. The truck runs great, original 216 c.i. motor was professionally rebuilt in 2008, including radiator, new starter and rebuilt carb, approximately 2000 miles on rebuild. Yes, the enine is running when I took the pictures. The truck runs cool, about 160 degrees, and can go all day in 2nd gear at 20-30 mph, perfect for parades, hayrides (I'll even include the hay), ranch tours, etc. Other possible uses, grandstand or bandstand, speech platform, use your imagination. I built the stakebed sides and a convenient fold down, removable, ladder for ease of access. This truck is not perfect, or a complete restoration, it needs new rubber and weather seals. The windows are all original, very clear, with no cracks, each is etched with the manufacture date of 06/49. The brakes are good, but need to be bled. All the gauges and the speedo work, but need to be refaced. I have the kit, and a new needle for this. It could use a new exhaust, the one on it now works fine, the truck is very quiet when running, remarkably quiet for a 61 year old truck. It's just not original. The tires could be replaced also, in the almost 3 years I have owned it, I have not put a single pound of air in the tires, they hold air, but are cracked and dry. Other issues, the vacuum wiper motor needs a rebuild (easy if you are familiar with these trucks) and the horn needs to be reinstalled. The horn has been rebuilt and I have all the wires and parts, but after the engine rebuild, I had the oil filter reinstalled and the horn got bumped and I haven't figured out where to put it. The wiring harness is also all original, and fragile, it needs to be replaced but I wanted to keep that original too. The truck is 6 volt. Transmission is solid, 4-speed, it shifts flawlessly, and stays in gear. When my mechanic pulled the motor for the rebuild, he found it had a heavy-duty clutch, with no signs of wear, so it was left alone. The truck has a dump bed, that is quite unusual, most trucks of this vintage have a hydraulic lift, this truck has a huge Braden winch mounted midships on the frame, powered by a PTO. The winch is connected to a pully system that lifts the 8 ft X 12 ft OBECO (Omaha Bed & Equipment Company) bed. The wood deck was replaced by the previous owner and is solid. The truck came with solid sides for hauling grain, which I still have and will provide to the buyer for free if desired for using the truck as a bulk carrier again. They appear to be original, they are very heavy and in good shape. I'll provide pictures if requested. Overall, this is a great truck, It shows very well, I want the new owner to be happy with it, so please, ask questions. I will do whatever I can to help wih shipping. The truck is sold "AS IS" with no warranty or guarantee offered or implied.
