Vehicle Detail
1965 Riviera Gran Sport I have owned this car for 8 years and this is a matching numbers vehicle – block serial matches body serial. It has been to both ROA and BCA national shows during that time. I have driven 2,200 miles round-trip to one show. This vehicle is very road worthy! Color is Champagne Mist with a Saddle interior. Color code = TT and 629 Mileage indicated is to the best of my knowledge. Note: This vehicle does not have H-2 ride and handling package. This Riviera is loaded and has several rare factory options: Body Tag: EXNTS-2KR-3B-4F-5W · Power vents; only 9.2% of production · 4-note horn; 13.9% · Cruise Control; 12.6% · Simulated Wood Wheel; 10.2% · Guidematic; 3.4% Other Factory Options: · A/C · Deluxe Interior · Power Windows · Power Driver Seat · Remote Trunk Release · AM/FM with Power Antenna · Rear Speaker · Rear Defroster (Accessory switch) · Remote Driver Mirror · Chrome Wheels (correct 1965 non-coded wheels) Dealer Installed Options: · Radio Reverb · Front & rear handy mats in Saddle Non-Original Factory Options: · Rear Seat Center Arm Rest (Added in 2004) Condition: Vehicle has undergone extensive mechanical restoration that was completed in 2005. However, this 1965 Riviera Gran Sport is still a “driver class” car not a “show car.” This is a 45 year old vehicle and was originally delivered in Indiana to be best of my knowledge. The engine and transmission work flawlessly. The A/C is R12 and works perfectly (blows really cold) as well as the Cruise Control works correctly. The clam shells work well and close tightly with correct clam shell bumpers and baffles in place! Partial list of restoration done: · Suspension rebuilt with new springs, bushings (all of them) and new shocks · New exhaust system done in 2 1/4" steel bent to Gran Sport specs with only rear muffler installed (no resonators); yes, it is a bit louder · Steering box rebuilt · Complete hydraulic line replacement including new master cylinder, CNC lines, rubber lines, brake shoes, brake springs, and wheel cylinders filled with silicone fluid · Carbs rebuilt with new fuel lines – both CNC steel lines and rubber hoses from the fuel tank forward · Transmission rebuilt with U-Joints and center support bearing · A/C completely rebuilt with new compressor, dryer, lines, expansion value, blower motor, NOS throttle valve, NOS vacuum diaphragms (both) and NOS A/C resistor · All cooling system hoses replaced plus an NOS water control valve · All correct brackets: fuel filter, water control valve, wire looms, heater hose · Rebuilt Alternator, correct NOS Delco Voltage Regulator, and some wires replaced Other restoration: · Some of the exterior pot metal has been re-chromed · AM/FM radio rebuilt, but still has a bad volume ground · Reverb has been rebuilt · Antenna rebuilt · Clock rebuilt and works beautifully · NOS rear defogger · New Rear Package Tray (Clarks) · NOS Horn Bar for Wood Wheel · Clam Shells are from Southern California Engine: LX Block Carbs: 3645 Carter front & 3925 Carter rear Distributor: 1111058 Chrome Air Cleaner was an NOS part Rear Axle: 3.42 Posi Other Goodies Included: · NOS set of Wheel Well Moldings (4 of them) · Grill from California (near perfect) · New Headlight Switch (GM-Delco) · R45S AC Spark Plugs · AC Oil Filters · AC Fuel Filter What this car needs: · Paint – repainted 20+ years ago and it was bad job then; has fish eye, runs, etc. including paint chips; it NEEDS PAINT · Bumpers – have some chrome peeling; rear bumper has a dent; rear bumper guards were painted and show be chrome; all NEED RECHROMING · Body – has dent in passenger door that was fixed poorly probably 15+ years ago · Passenger Vent Window – motor runs and window does not; gear needs to be replaced · Power Seat – moves front & rear, but not up & down · Driver Window – window will not go down when switches are cradled in door housing ; lift housing up 2” and it works fine (all other window switches work correctly) What is not perfect: · Guidematic – works when it wants to · Headliner – has one small pin hole on passenger side near front windsheild · AM/FM Radio – plays but has short in volume stack · Driver Seat – lower cushion was replaced with non-matching vinyl and has a burn mark · Chrome Wheels – have some pitting and could use rechroming; they are originals · Floor pan and trunk have been patched perhaps 20+ years ago All bidders are encouraged view and inspect the vehicle before the auction closes. There are no warranties implied or otherwise with this vehicle. Post auction vehicle inspections will not be granted. Reserve price is set very realistically and please do not ask. Questions – ask away and I will try to post answers back to the auction for all to see! Please read payments instructions carefully! On Jul-31-10 at 08:11:28 PDT, seller added the following information:In taking some additional pictures that were requested, I noticed that headliner has 2 pinhead holes at the passenger side front and a 1/2" rip near the rear window. Headliner is original and looks very good. Email me a request for specific pictures. On Aug-01-10 at 06:24:20 PDT, seller added the following information:Several folks asked about the engine compartment. To maintain authenticity, NOS parts were used as available. All of the water hoses use tower-top and wire hose clamps as original - no leaks, no problems. All the vacuum and gas hoses use color coded pinch clamps. The fuel filter is an NOS AC GF-96 - discountinued after 1967. The Optikleen bottle is an original with repro sticker and cap. Bracket is original. On Aug-03-10 at 18:37:47 PDT, seller added the following information:In the last 3 days, a few folks have asked the following questions: Is this Riviera rust-free? No. The car resided in Indiana for 37 years and only the last 8 years in Virginia (in my garage). Has any of the body been repaired? I am not an autobody guy, but I believe the front-clip has been repaired. The passenger door has had body work that is visible. The rear window has some visible body rot that is typical of first generation Rivieras. On Aug-06-10 at 03:10:43 PDT, seller added the following information:A couple of inquiries about the clamshells (headlights)... While I do not have any pictures posted with the clamshells open, they work perfectly. The right linkage-arm was NOS when installed in 2004. The clamshells are replacements that were purchased from Southern California - they have a few micro pits - they are very nice! These clamshells have the correct bumpers (fit btw upper / lower clamshell when closed) as well as the correct fillers (fill the sides of the headlights btw regular and highbeam - small black metal pieces). You often see many clamshells that appear to wink and the fillers missing. On Aug-06-10 at 03:14:04 PDT, seller added the following information:Please note that the alternater, power steering, and A/C accessory brackets have been chromed - probably 20+ years ago. They should be Buick green. I personally like this non-original look for the 2-4bbl engine.
