Vehicle Detail

1989 CHEVY SPRINT TURBO THIS IS AN AWESOME CAR, DON'T MISS IT!!! Up for sale today, we have a 1989 factory turbocharged 1.0 liter 3 cylinder 5-speed Chevrolet Sprint. This has to be the rarest of this body style produced under such different styles and rebadged as the Pontiac Firefly, Suzuki Swift and Geo Metro. I HAVE NOT HEARD OF ANYONE THAT HAS THIS MODEL! IF YOU WANT A RARE CAR THAT GETS GREAT FUEL MILEAGE AND THAT HAS A LITTLE UMPH, THIS IS IT. This tiny girl looks great, performs great and handles like a go-cart. She is reportedly a 2-owner car that spent most of her life in Florida and the remainder garaged in Mi. According to her previous owner, she has undergone an extensive restoration with a great deal of new parts. The Chevy Sprint we all remember was the 87-88 body style which was a "box". They were offered with a turbo for those 2 years and were available in red and white only. Now, this is an 89 which was never offered for sale in the U.S. They were, however, sold in Canada and were available in red white or blue. Go figure! This Sprint has the well known 1.0 liter 3-cylinder with numerous changes. The most obvious is the intercooled turbocharger. She has true fuel injection with 3 injectors instead of the throttle body. A whole slew of factory internal modifications were made, and the computer is very different. The transmission gear ratio is out of this world. Turbo versions were produced in 87, 88, 89, 90 and 91. The Turbo added 30 horse power and almost a 50% increase in power output. The Turbo Sprint got a top mounted intercooler with the 89/90/91 model getting a factory hood scoop. The 87/88 intercooler had a blow off valve, while the 90/91 did not. The 87/88 got a 4 pinion differential. These are just some of the features of the turbo Sprints, Swifts and Canadian Fireflies. This car’s odometer is in kilometers, not miles. The attached picture shows 247,430 in kilometers (which converts to 153,745 miles). This car has a current Texas Inspection and Registration Certificate - See attached picture. New clutch installed around March 2010. Before I purchased the car, the previous owner stated that he had replaced every part that was available new. All new gaskets, exhaust, wiper motor, coil, wires, cap, rotor and the new tri-fire plugs. Belts are new, all hoses are new, radiator is new, alternator is new. The water pump and thermostat are also new. The suspension is also all new. It has new control arms and ball joints, tie rod ends, struts, bushings, and front and rear stabilizer bars. As for the bearings and brakes, they are all new also. The previous owner replaced, inner and outer bearings, brake hoses, calipers, pads, rotors, wheel cylinders, shoes, hardware and drums. So basically the suspension and brake set up is all completely new. Not rebuilt or remanufactured, but NEW!! As you can see it has “brand new” 16x7 114.3 40mm offset "Knight" rims and Maxxis 205/40 16 All-Season tires. There is no rubbing going on. They fit like a glove and personally I think they look sharp. So now we can move on to the exterior. New E4 Bright red paint. New outer door handles, new antenna, new wiper blades, new clear corner lights, new blinkers, new tinted windows, and get this, the headlights are GLASS!! They were only offered overseas. All the lights are loaded with the new hid 8500k Blue bulbs. H4's in the headlights, h3's in the driving lights. As for the glass, the windshield is brand new, and the rest is original and in excellent shape. The window regulators have been revamped and "bridged" to avoid the common problem of the glass not tracking properly. All the lock cylinders are matched and work properly. The hatch struts are new (so yes it does go up and stay up on it's own.). Also, she has a hatch release next to the driver’s seat. And now for the interior. Let’s go from the ground up. The carpet is new, all of the upholstery is brand new, including the door panels, quarter trim inserts and seats (with the exception of the striped centers which were dry-cleaned before being sewn in). Dome light, inner door handles and window cranks. The spare is new, and it has all the tools and jack installed exactly the way it came from the factory. I do have the factory white and stainless hubcaps that go with the car. This car also has brand new mirrors. Another option it has is a split rear seat. Although not pictured, I installed a new Sony CD player, new pair of rear 3-way speakers and a new very powerful subwoofer speaker enclosure and amplifier. I've seen a lot of metros, but I can't say I've seen one with this set up. The other things that are different, is that this one has b pillar covers on the inside between the door and the quarter window. They are grey. They are between the quarter trim panels and the headliner. It also has interior trim panels around the back bottom corner of the inside of the quarter window up past where the hatch shock mounts up to the headliner. I haven’t seen those before either. Usually it's just the metal painted the color of the exterior. It also has brand new half shafts and struts. Also, finished custom painted rotors and drums, silver calipers fire red with ceramic paint. They are all new of course. Now besides this being a Sprint of this body style and besides it being a factory turbo, I'll give you her EXTREMELY RARE options: Factory trunk release Dealer Installed sunroof Factory overhead digital clock with light (to my knowledge this is the only turbo sprint with the Factory sunroof and overhead clock ever made!) Another option, not factory is the A/C. The fan motor blows strong but I can’t certify whether or not the unit needs 134a or additional work to cool properly. Yes…the intercooler and hood scoop are functional. So…basically this is a fully restored 1989 Chevrolet Sprint Intercooled 5-speed Turbo. I can tell you right now, you pull up in this, and you WILL turn heads. She’s a pretty quick little girl too! And now here’s a little Sprint history...................... The Chevrolet Sprint was sold in the United States and Canada, with GM continuing to market the Chevette until 1987 alongside the Sprint. In the 1988 model year, the naturally-aspirated hatchback was named the Chevrolet Sprint Metro. The "Sprint" and "Sprint Metro" differed in their engines, though both were computer controlled carb systems. From 1985 to 1988, the carbureted 1.0 liter 3-cylinder engine used a hemispherical head design. Later, fuel injection required the cylinder head for 1989 be redesigned to add the additional cooling required thereby reducing gas mileage. The Sprint was originally offered in parts of the western US for the 1985 model year; subsequently Chevrolet marketed the Sprint across North America. All models were initially 3-dr hatchbacks. Starting in 1986, a five-door hatchback version was offered, called the Sprint Plus. That year, another model called the Sprint ER was offered that included a few extra features such as an "upshift" light to indicate the ideal speed to shift to the next highest gear on manual transmission models. Although air conditioning was offered in all years, the three-speed automatic transmission wasn't offered until 1986. All models featured front-wheel drive and 12-inch tires. Turbocharged versions of the 1.0 L 3-cylinder engine were available in the Turbo Sprint from 1987 to 1990 (1987-1988 in U.S.). Colors were limited to red, white and blue for the Turbo Sprint. The corresponding Suzuki was not turbocharged; instead, it used a 1.3 L 4-cylinder engine. In South America, the name "Chevette Sprint" was considered before calling the Colombia model (Generation I) the "Chevrolet Sprint" — to distinguish it from the Opel knock down kits imported to Brazil. When presented on 7 October 1986, the Sprint caused a sensation. Slight modifications were made in 1987, including increasing the wheel sizes from 12" to 13" and the Sprint remained in production virtually unchanged until 2004 with a final production of 70,848 units. Import models of Generation II models were imported from 1991 until 2004 and called the Chevrolet Swift. I have described this car to the best of my knowledge and hopefully it's detailed enough to tell you everything you need to know. GOOD LUCK!!
