On Jul-19-10 at 07:15:49 PDT, seller added the following information: There are "Bandits" that are not PHS documented Y84 Special Editions. Pontiac never produced "Bandit" Trans Ams, they produced Special Edition Trans Ams. It is almost impossible to tell a true Special Edition from a clone. The best way is with a build sheet or PHS documentation from Pontiac Historical Services. I have the PHS documentation showing this is a true Special Edition Y84 Trans Am. The original block on this vehicle was discovered to be cracked during rebuild and was replaced. The heads used during the rebuild were 68 Olds 350 heads, to improve compression and horsepower. On Jul-22-10 at 07:57:00 PDT, seller added the following information: In response to a request for more background information; It was originally sold by Charles Maund Pontiac here in Austin in 79. It went to Dallas where I'm told it was eventually repainted blue for someone's daughter as a present. When I first looked at the car I was concerned about why someone would take a beautiful Black and Gold SE and paint it blue even though the metal plate riveted to the engine compartment stated it was black on black, I doubted this was an SE. After watching the body shop take the paint down to metal I found it was originally black. The coding on it indicates it was originally black. The final straw in confirming it's SE status was buying the Pontiac Historical Services documents which showed the original paperwork on the car from the factory. When I bought it, the engine ran "OK" but didnt have the power I would expect a Trans Am to have. So I did some research and learned that the 403 Olds can be rebuilt using '68 to 72 350 Olds heads, which would improve compression and increase torque and HP. While I did that I added a hotter cam, Edelbrock Performer intake and carb. It has new alternator, fan, radiator, brake booster, water pump, battery etc etc and now runs like it was supposed to . I also had the A/C fixed to where it blows cold air. The car was due a new paint job so about 2 yrs ago I had it stripped down to metal on all outside surfaces and repainted with base coat/ clear coat. I had new graphics put on the car. I am very happy with the paint job now. In the process of repainting, I replaced the T-top moldings and door moldings. The interior was in good condition when I bought it. The gold dash bezel was faded so I installed a new one. The door panels were not up to par so I replaced them with new ones. The interior looks great now but if I were keeping it, I would buy new seat covers and have them installed to make it look new. The exhaust is about a year old.. I had it installed front to back at Leonards Mufflers and it sounds good. The stereo system is lacking. I have a CD head unit and one speaker in the front dash. If I were keeping it I would install some 6X9's in the read deck, sub and amp in the trunk.
