Vehicle Detail
1965 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible Up for sale is my 1965 Oldsmobile 442 convertible. Everything on the car is factory original.......car has never been in a wreck and maintains ALL of it's factory orginal body panels, bumbers, carpet, interior vinyl, engine, transmission and rear-end. This car is somewhat of a time-capsule if that's what you are looking for. The only major thing that has been replaced from the factory is the convertible top. That was replaced 2 years ago and is in perfect condition with no tears and a perfectly clear back window. The original factory red-line bias-ply spare tire and trunk mat is still in the trunk and has not been removed since it left the Oldsmobile lot back in 1965. As far as I can tell.......I am the 3rd owner. The first owner was an engineer at the Oldsmobile plant in Michigan where it was built and it was maticulously maintained and cared for. It was then sold to an Oldsmobile Dealer salesman that was a friend of the first owner. And I am the 3rd owner. From what I can find these are the specifications of the car..........and I'm sure they all still apply since the car has never been taken apart in any way, right down to the factory metal lube tag that is still on the rear-end. Specifications 400 CID V8, 10.25:1 Compression Ratio 345 HP @ 4600 RPM, 440 lb-ft Torque @ 3200 RPM Heavy Duty 2 Speed Jetaway Automatic Transmission Roto-matic Power Steering Bucket Seats, Center Console with Tachometer 115" Wheelbase, 204.3" Overall Length, 54" Overall Height 74.4" Overall Width, 3380 Lbs Shipping Weight One of 1,683 Automatic Convertibles made in 1965 I also found that according to Automotvie Information Clearing House, that there are only 264 of the 1965 Olds 442's left. That would make this car pretty rare I think. And here's your chance to own one of them. A few interesting things you might want to know..........the car has about 400 miles on it's new tires, the exhaust system is rather new and sounds good (not too loud), the motor runs GREAT and is very smooth and easy to start hot or cold, the factory tach still works and the power antena still works. The 442 runs very nice down the highway and has PLENTY of power. On hard take-offs it still will demonstrate it has the positraction rear-end from the factory. Odometer reads 25,000 miles.....Title reads "Exempt" for mileage. All the lights work and power top also works. Car was repainted about 7 years ago to it's original color and it still looks great as you can see in the pictures. The paint does show some minor wear, but you have to be right next to the 442 to see it. The carpet and vinyl are still from the factory and looks wonderful.......some wear, but VERY minimal. This 442 has factory A/C, factory power steering and factory power brakes with the front being disc brakes. Car also comes with vactory original convertible rear cover that is pictured. There is no rot or holes in the floors/frame or trunk.....very solid factory metal. This car was very well cared for and it shows. Good luck on your bidding for my 442. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. This is the first time I've tried to sell it. If it does not sell here this week I will list it some other places then. Car is not for sale locally....E-bay buyers will have first shot at it this week. If you have an E-bay rating of (5) or less.......please contact me before bidding. If you have "non-paying" feedback, you will not be allowed to bid on this car. Good luck with your bidding on my 1965 Oldsmobile 442On Jul-12-10 at 05:02:15 PDT, seller added the following information: The Automotive Clearing House information that states there are only 264 of the 1965 Olds 442's left is in referrence to the CONVERTIBLE's that are left. Just making that clear. There are many more hard-top 442's left than that............but very few of the convertibles as you can see as only 264 remaining/registered. Sorry for the possible confusion. On Jul-14-10 at 17:41:50 PDT, seller added the following information: I just took the front wheels off for the first time.......and it IS a drum brake car like it should be. Apparently someone stuck a "Disc Brake" cover on the brake pedal, and I thought I could see disc brakes in the dark garage the other night from behind the wheel. Now we know......it IS a drum brake car. I will be changing that in the listing. I feel like a dummy........but at least now we all know the car is truely as it should be. Thanks for the questions that brought this to the surface. TimOn Jul-16-10 at 19:17:46 PDT, seller added the following information: I have been getting questions on the block ID #'s and Head ID #'s that are on this 442 engine. They read as follows........The Block Code just behind the water pump reads........389298B.......... The head code is stamped "A". These are the correct codes for the 1965 400 engine that were installed in the 442's. This is the correct #'s matching engine in this car and has never been removed. If you would like pics of these code numbers and letters.....let me know, and I will get them to you. Good questions.......keep them coming. Tim
