Vehicle Detail

1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Roadster, 327 Matching Numbers OVERVIEW: Up for bid is a very clean 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Roadster. This car is largely original, with a matching numbers 327 / 300 hp engine, mated to a 4-speed transmission. ENGINE: 327 CID / 300 hp small block Chevy with a vacuum secondary Holley. The stamped numbers on the engine properly match the VIN. This engine was rebuilt about 10 years ago. Starts every time and runs great! Very reliable. Slight lifter noise, but only at higher rpm's. TRANSMISSION: 4-speed manual transmission. Rebuilt and shifts perfectly! REAR END: The original rear end was removed, rebuilt and replaced about 10 years ago, and is nice and quiet. U-Joints were also replaced and are in great shape. Gear ratio unknown. SUSPENSION: New larger front sway bar with new bushings, and newer shocks all around. New rear transverse spring from Eckler’s. New control arm braces, tie rods and steering arm components. EXTERIOR: The paint is OEM Silver Pearl, though to be mostly original. The outside of this car is clean and does not have any door dings. There are some minor paint chips from years of driving, but overall the car really shows well. The Sidepipes look great, and sound even better! All of the emblems look really good, and are not pitted or cosmetically damaged. The front and rear bumper chrome is really good, with no visual signs of pitting, etc. WHEELS & TIRES: Vintage 15” x 6” true knock off wheels made in the USA by KMC with correct look, VERY similar to the early Kelsey Hayes wheels which came stock on these cars. Painted rib reliefs and brushed chrome wheel centers all correct for 1966. Tires have narrow white walls which still have some life in them for cruising. BRAKES: Original equipment manual 4-wheel disc brakes. New Stainless hard lines and new Russel DOT rated stainless flex lines. Stops great with firm feel for non-power assisted brakes. INTERIOR: The interior is original, with the exception of vintage corvette leather seats which replace the original vinyl seats (original vinyl seats not included). The carpet is faded and could be replaced. The radio, wipers, exterior lighting, gauge lights and turn signals all work great. A hand made real teak wood steering wheel (not original) finishes off the interior. TOP: The Black convertible top is in great shape with no tears, and has a clear plastic back window. No fitment issues at all. Looks great up or down! EXTRAS WITH SALE: Reproduction owner’s manual, original jack, knock-off hammer, knock off safety lock pins, and car cover. All new replacement rubber for doors, hood, etc., also included in sale. No documentation or protecto-plate exist. TERMS: Bid with confidence, as I have an excellent reputation and no unhappy buyers to date. Potential bidders may inspect the car PRIOR to bidding. An inspection is an excellent way to eliminate disappointment . A winning bid will be considered a sale. The car is being purchased “As-is” and “Where is”, no warranty. Please allow for normal wear and tear based on the fact that this vehicle is 44 years old, and is a driver, not a show car. I have done my best to represent the car accurately, and want you to know and understand exactly what you are bidding on. Winning bidders must pay $1,500 non-refundable deposit, due within 48 hours of winning this auction. Balance due within 7 days via bank wire transfer only. Local pickup available, or I will gladly accommodate your carrier arrangements. On Jun-27-10 at 07:09:16 PDT, seller added the following information: JUNE 27, 2010: I created a photo album with images and video of this car, which can be seen by clicking the link below. If you don't have a snapfish account, you may need to create one to view these images. Enjoy! http://www2.snapfish.com/snapfish/thumbnailshare/AlbumID=2164448024/a=156662364_156662364/On Jun-28-10 at 19:31:59 PDT, seller added the following information: Due to bidder request, I uploaded images of the Holley carb stamped and cast numbers to the snapfish album mentioned above. I also included the intake casting numbers too. Thanks for the interest. On Jun-29-10 at 20:25:24 PDT, seller added the following information: Due to bidder request, I just uploaded engine block casting numbers found near the area of the block which mates to the bellhousing. These new images can be found using the snapfish link above. Thanks for looking. On Jul-01-10 at 19:48:00 PDT, seller added the following information: Due to bidder request, I checked the 4-speed transmission casting number located on the passenger side, which reads 3885010. The Trans is also stamped 103868 on the shift linkage side, which does match the last 6 numbers of the car's vin. I haven't checked the rear yet, but it is thought to also be original. Thanks to everyone for both educating me on these cars and also for the interest. On Jul-01-10 at 19:55:05 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional Information: ENGINE NUMBER:6103868 FI013HE ENGINE CASTING NUMBER:3858174 ENGINE CASTING DATE:J125 Thanks for looking !On Jul-02-10 at 16:17:26 PDT, seller added the following information: With bidder support, I was able to locate the transmission casting and stamped numbers as well as the bellhousing casting numbers as mentioned before, and have now uploaded them all to the snapfish album. I also uploaded a rear end image which shows a heavy duty cover apparently made by "Muskegon Brake", which seems to be a Corvette Specialist on Michigan's West Coast. This was probably upgraded when the rear end was rebuilt many years back, and seems to be the only visible non-original piece so far, although I am completely new to mid-year corvettes. Sorry, I don't have the OEM cover. This rear end is super quiet and seems to have been properly rebuilt. I hope this info answers all of today's new questions. On Jul-02-10 at 17:01:10 PDT, seller added the following information: 8PM EST: OK, now addressing more new questions regarding the paint and the front inner fender "Bonding Strips" (Never heard of that before). Took more pictures, uploaded to the same album. Glad I can use a camera. My opinion is that the appearance of the inner fenders "Bonding Strips" seem original, but I do feel a small area inside the fender lip which may have been repaired. Upon closer inspection, I now see a few very minor hairline "cracks" in the fiberglass, most likely from age. See images. Again, this car is a driver, not a show car, and shows signs of normal driving wear and minor "road rash", all of which is nearly invisible from 5' away. If there are any final concerns, please ask now or forever hold your peace. As mentioned in the beginning, in order to eliminate any disappointment, come see this car before the auction ends, as the final winning bid is a commitment to buy. Now I'm off in this car to go get ice cream with my wife......
