Vehicle Detail

This auction is for a 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV. Original west coast car that came from San Francisco, and I believe it has always been a California car. I purchased the GTV from the proprieter of the local Alfa Shop in San Francisco. It had been his own personal car for at least the last 15 years. Being that he owned an Alfa shop, it received only the best care by someone that was an Alfa expert. The GTV is essentially an all stock example that has never been restored or had rust repair. It had one repaint that is at least 15 years old and the repaint is showing it's age from the California sun. The Alfa still retains the original Spica injection and is properly tuned. The GTV is a very rare color. Although the Alfa looks like the "maroon" color, it is actually a lighter shade which is called "Prugna" as shown on the original paint sticker in the trunk. According to the original factory brochure, they refer to the color as "Plum". As stated the "Prugnia" color is quite rare and in my opinion much prettier than the maroon color. The wheels shown were taken from my Spider, and will be sold with the original factory "Turbina" wheels. The GTV as not seen much use in the past few years, and is currently in storage with a car cover with my other Alfa's. I will consider a "Buy it now" price for the motivated buyer. The body is in good original condition. It still retains the original rocker panels with the factory seams - meaning that they have not been fixed or repaired - always a good sign when an Alfa has the original rockers. The floor pan and jacking points are in excellent shape with no signs of rust or corrosion. There is no rust around the rear quarter window which is a common arear as well as the rear window. Since I have owned several GTV's over the years, I can tell you that most have some sort of rust. Very rarely will you see a GTV that doesn't have some sort of corrosion. The GTV's that are truly rust free, will command top dollar - with several on ebay right now in the $25K range. Even some of the so called high dollar GTV's will have a little bit of rust. I believe GTV's are one of the most affordable Alfa's that will continue to appreciate while giving their owner's a great Alfa that is really quite practicle and reliable. This GTV has minor rust compared to most. The passenger side rocker panel has some paint that has lifted from the metal - at first glance it looks like rust bubbles, but underneath you can see the metal, so I'm guessing that it may have been a paint issue. There are also a few small spots around the original factory glue in windshield where the paint appears to have chipped/flaked, but once again there is no rust through. Those spots have been touched up. The other issue with the paint is on the driver's side rear quarter panel. The paint appears to be damaged due to some sort of contamination. It looks like something may have sprayed on the paint and damaged it. I have a picture that will hopefully show what I am talking about. There is also a small ding on the driver's side front fender that can be noticed when looking at the car at a certain angle and also a spot on the roof - barely noticeable but worth mentioning. Both bumpers are in very good condition. There are several spots where the clear coat has worn as well. The paint is acceptable for a "driver", but it really should get a repaint at some point. When the car was previously painted, the rectangular side markers were deleted which gives the car a much cleaner look. Finally, there are some other misc. chips and minor rust that one would expect from a 36 year old car. The interior is in nice original condition. The seats look very good with no rips or tears. The door panels are in good shape and do have speakers that were installed back in the "day". Radio is not hooked up. Carpet is in good shape with no rips or holes. The dash does have a cap on it. Mechanically the Alfa is in great shape - since it was owned by an Alfa mechanic. The engine and engine compartment are very clean and is completely stock. It has complete new clutch maser cylinder as well as a slave cylinder. The front and center section of the exhaust is new - it seems to be vibrating and may need some minor adjusting. The Alfa starts right up and sounds great. Oil pressure is good and the car operates at normally temperature. The clutch and gear box feel fine and 2nd gear syncro is in good shape. All fluids have been recently changed as well. The engine pictures show the engine with the airbox off - I do have the factory airbox which will be included. The Alfa is a nice original example that has always been maintained. As stated, it's not a restored example and represents an excellent value for someone that cannot afford a $20K GTV. I have seen many of these so called restored cars, and you really don't know what you are getting. I recently saw the restoration pictures of one of the $25K GTV's, and the car had extensive rust repair - I wouldn't touch that car for any money. Most would not know what was lurking under the paint. With this GTV, you get a really nice solid original example that has never had rust repair. Just some minor stuff that has occurred over the life of the car. I have done my best to describe the GTV to the best of my ability. I may have missed something, so if there is some additional information needed, let me know. The GTV is located in Metro Detroit and is currently in storage. It comes with a clear California title. It is being sold in "as is" condition with no warranty expressed or implied. My feedback speaks for itself, so you can bid with confidence. The fine print: If you have 0 feedback or 2 or more negative feedback ratings, you must contact me prior to bidding. A deposit of $500.00 is due within 24 hours of the auction end time - preferably by paypal. The balance is due within a 7 day period with no exceptions. The GTV must be picked up within 10 days of the auction end date. A $20.00 storage fee per day will be charged after the 10 day period unless prior arrangements have been made. I do reserve the right to end the auction early. Keep in mind that the GTV is 36 years old and is far from perfect. It has some nice patina to it, and is truly a great looking car that will always get a compliment. I am only selling it to make room for another wonderful Alfa!
