Vehicle Detail

I'm auctioning off my 1997 Volkswagen Passat GLX VR6 station wagon. I stopped driving it on a daily basis last year, when the slipping clutch became too annoying for me to handle. My plan was to fix the clutch, but having been struck hard by the economic downturn, I couldn't come up with the funds to fix it. It has spent most of its time sitting in my driveway since then, but still gets driven from time to time to keep the battery charged and all the fluids moving throughout. You could drive it home if you're within a few hundred miles, but carefully due to the slipping. If you have access to a trailer, tow dolly or car hauler, that's the best and safest way to go. Here is an accurate description of the VW's condition: 1997 Volkswagen Passat GLX VR6 148,XXX miles 2.8L VR6, 5-speed manual trans., Storm Grey Metallic exterior, Black leather interior, Heated seats, Air conditioning, Power tilt/slide glass sunroof, Power locks/windows, Factory alarm, Factory 15” BBS Alloy wheels, K&N air filter w/modified airbox, Center "suitcase" muffler replaced with straight pipe, Synthetic oil every 5000 since 80,000, Koni adjustable shocks/struts, Polyurethane suspension bushings, Neuspeed sport/lowering springs, JOM 5mm lower strut/spring caps, Autotech 10.8mm spark plug wires, New ignition coil, Newer battery, Cargo area sliding cover NEEDS: Clutch, A/C isn't working (sytem holds a charge, switch just doesn't turn it on), Driver window slipped out of window regulator (currently held up by blue tape), Driver door handle was replaced and now power locks don’t work from driver lock cylinder & door is hard to open from outside (possibly wrong handle installed, will include old one), Passenger rearview mirror cracked (will include used replacement that needs paint, currently green), Check engine light on (the Air Injection Pump, that is used for emissions, went bad several years ago and turned on this light, so I just disconnected the pump to kill the noise and since we don’t test emissions in MI anyway), Front strut bearings are creaking/need to be replaced, Rust on all doors and a small dent and scratches on hood (see pics), Rear towhook cover won't stay up (I just put a bumper sticker on to hold it shut), Driver seat has small tear in seat bottom. Windshield has a crack. A common question regarding VR6 engines with this mileage is "have the timing chains been replaced?" The answer is No, not in the time I've owned the car. They are not noisy, so they still have some miles left in them, but if you are going to remove the trans to put in a new clutch, I'd suggest replacing the chains at that time as preventative maintenance. The winning bidder will also recieve a box of extra parts for this car: new oil filters, the original suspension system, extra mirror, extra door handle, VW-specific engine coolant and whatever else I can find that would apply to this car. NOTE: Mudflaps and European headlights shown in pics are not included. The flaps and lights have been removed and sold. I've reinstalled the original US-spec headlights. Doesn't look much different, US lights are plastic, whereas the Euro lights were glass. Please read the auction listing and review the pics very carefully. If you still have questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. If you are local and would like to see the car, I can show it in the evenings after 6PM EST, just send me a message before 3PM EST to set something up and get directions. Since the car will need some work, I understand and have no problem if you would like to bring a mechanic by to inspect the vehicle. This car is being sold as-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Ask all questions before bidding. Thanks for viewing my auction. Good Luck!!!
