Vehicle Detail
This is one of the finest examples of the Biturbo E. The “E” model Biturbo has wider tires and is lower than the normal Biturbo along with the unique paint scheme. This car was purchased New from the Maserati Distributorship in Baltimore Maryland by my father in 1985. The car is fully documented and is in excellent condition. This auction includes the car, car cover and assorted spare parts. This car is in excellent running condition. Please email me with questions or if you would like to inspect the car in person. I have larger pictures if you would like them emailed directly to you. Please provide me with your email address when requesting. On Jun-01-10 at 17:54:08 PDT, seller added the following information: Visable differences between the Biturbo and the Biturbo E include: Links are to images where available, if you have an image that I am missing, please help by sending it to me. needed images include: console plaque form West Coast E, any others that i missed. 1985 Biturbo E is badged with a large anthracite “E” on the rear. It was only available in two color combinations; red or silver, both with the anthracite lower panels and wheels. In addition to being anthracite in color, the wheels are 6 1/2 Inches wide instead of 6 inches like the other Biturbos of that time. The backseat had headrests. The grill was a small grid diagonal steel mesh instead of a large pattern horizontal grid. A Nardi steering wheel and fog lights were optional on all Biturbos, but were standard on the E. Spearco Intercoolers were added to all E’s imported through the California importer and were only optional on the E’s imported through the East coast importer. There were only 2 importers at the time. (This car was imported through Baltimore Maryland on the East Coast no intercoolers) The window trim had much of the chrome blacked out. I have been told of side trim differences, and I will find pictures to show this. The West Coast importer put a plaque on the console below the radio which showed the car number as xx of 250 (we think, a picture would be great). We think this was of the 250 which came through that importer. On Jun-02-10 at 05:21:34 PDT, seller added the following information: This car does not have intercoolers it did not come from the factory equipped with them. Intercoolers were installed by the west coast importer. This car came from the East Cost Importer i.e. NO INTERCOOLERS let me say one more time so people stop asking me where they are THERE ARE NO INTERCOOLERS ON THIS CAR!On Jun-02-10 at 12:16:54 PDT, seller added the following information: I have contacted MIE in regards to this car not having intercoolers and they verified that the 1985 models would only have them if it was installed at the dealer. On Jun-03-10 at 09:18:58 PDT, seller added the following information: Questions: Hi, I have some questions as follows: The car has been driven less than 1,000 miles in just over 5 years, so what date did you change the cam belts/water pump last? Has the car been repainted, if so , when? NO RUST at all? Do all gauges , a/c blow cold, stereo are work properly? Did you do a fuse box upgrade? Why did the car have a duplicate title issued? These cars, over time had a tendency to have the leather turn a green ish color, do you have much.. hard to see on computer.. Turbos spool up properly (ever replaced)? What type of oil do you run? You have all service records, book, tool ? Last, as I am in California and smog is reqd for all cars newer than 1975, does this car have catalytic converters, smog pump/belt, etc? Answers to questions: The cam belt along with all of the other belts were replaced about a year ago by me. The cam oil seals, front seal, rear main seal were also replaced at the same time. The water pump was replaced several years ago when my father owned the car. I have the receipt for the job but do not recall the date. The car has been Spot Painted I know the Hood and roof as well as the trunk lid have been painted. From what I remember it was probably 12 to 15 years ago. The wheels were also repainted at that time. The sides of the car to my knowledge are original paint. The car has no rust there are some very small bubbles on the right rear window frame. But they are not noticeable. All of the gauges A/C Radio etc work perfectly the only thing that does not function 100% is the remote door lock for the passenger door that is operated from the dash. It does actuate it but it will not unlock. I am sure this is from lack of use and I just have not removed the door panel to lubricate it. The lock does work if you use the key or push or pull the button. It is just the remote does not have enough power to move the mechanism. I did not do the fuse box upgrade. I have not looked through all of the paperwork to see if it was completed or not. Was this a recall? If it was I am sure my father had it taken care of through the dealer. The duplicate title was issued because we could not locate the title when my father passed away and the car was being transferred to me. Maryland requires a title for the transfer. The car is currently registered in Georgia which does not issue a title for a car this old. The department of motor vehicles told me to do a bill of sale and that would suffice even if the car was sold out of state because that is the GA law. The only Greening on the interior is a small spot on the driver’s side of the dash just below the air vent. The driver’s seat did have this but I was able to find a new old stock seat back through MIE and replaced it. The carpet has faded in spots as well as you can see from the pictures. The headliner was replaced with the original leather and new foam about a year ago. The sun visor panel was also replaced with a NOS panel from MIE. The Turbos work perfectly and build full boost. The car starts and runs as it did when it was new. There is no smoke at full throttle or at start up. To my knowledge they are the original turbos. The car was driven by my father about 55K miles the first year he owned it 1985 and after that time it was a pleasure use car with only 1 to 2 hundred miles per year. The oil and antifreeze were always changed regularly. The oil I am using is 15w-50 Mobil 1 this was recommended by Lenny at Auto Italia in California which is the parts source I used for all of my parts. I have used the OEM Maserati Filters and have three extras that will go with the car. I have all of the original paperwork, Window sticker original bill of sale manual that is in the glove box, radio manual original sales brochure etc. As far as tools the tool kit in the trunk is complete if that is what you are referring to. I machined a rear main seal tool to install the rear main seal that I will let go with the car as well but it is not a Maserati Factory tool just one I machined out of aluminum to do the job. The car is as delivered with all of the emission controls working. The air pump is connected and works. The catalytic converter as you can see in the picture is there as well. I had to replace the evacuation pump for the carburetor dome and currently have it disconnected but if you plug the wire in it works perfectly with the thermal switch that is connected to the radiator hose. I have also replaced the tires and rebuilt the rear brake calipers along with flushing the brake system along with a host of other small jobs.
