Vehicle Detail
I am re-listing this car due to a non-paying bidder. If you are not serious and do not have the cash in hand, please do not bid. This will be the last time that I list this car for sale in Portsmouth, Va. If you are interested in the car, please also know that I will not be lowering the price in any future listings. If the car does not sell, I will be bringing it to Atlanta, Georgia, where it will be stored until I can get a reasonable price for it. I have lowered the price from the last listing by about $600, which is what it will cost for me to drive it to Atlanta and store it for 6 months. I have just added a photo of the quote from the mechanic who inspected my car. The cylinder pressure test and inspection have been paid for, so the total cost for repairs is about $1540.00 This quote is transferable, and the winner can take this quote back to the shop where the inspection was done to get the repairs done at the quoted cost. (Right click, view image to view the full size scan.) I have recently had the car inspected by an ASE certified mechanic. He did a compression test and found all cylinders to have an even compression at 145 psi. The minor discrepancies he noted are included in the text below. I have also had the car inspected in Virginia, and it passed, as I knew it would. Because of the limit on eBay of 24 pictures, the remaining pictures can be found below the text. This is a 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo. It has 87,500 miles, 10,000 of which I have put on the car since I purchased it in 2006. One of the first things I did after purchasing the car was an oil change using premium Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil. I have regularly performed oil changes every 3,500 miles, also using only premium Mobil 1 fully synthetic oils. Since purchasing the car, I have had the timing belt, pulley, seals, and water pump replaced. These were done about 4,000 miles ago. I also had the radiator replaced around that time. All of the work was done at my father's high line repair shop by one of his best mechanics, but since it was after hours work, I have no receipts for the work done. As with any car that is 23 years old, this Porsche has a couple minor issues. There is some minor body damage on the car. There is a small dent below the driver's side tail light, which was there when I bought the car. Also, there is a 5 inch scratch, with minor denting, where a trailer backed into my car in a parking lot and drove off. Luckily, it is in the "rock guard" area of the door, and that part of the frame is aluminum, which has not rusted or corroded. I had the car inspected recently, and the issues that he found were that the alternator is missing a "fresh air" hose, and some moisture was noted on the rack and pinion boot. The only other known issue is, as reported to me by the ASE certified mechanic who did an inspection of this car, is an issue with 2nd gear. I previously thought this problem was in the shift linkage, but the mechanic told me that it was more likely a shift fork issue. The car will shift through all the gears. There is no grinding, and the synchros function fine. The pictures illustrate the condition of the interior. These are the only problems I can find with the interior, and the remainder of the interior appears to be in excellent condition. Compared to many other 944's of this vintage, I think the interior is almost perfect. There is a very small crack in the dash. I have put two dimes by it for size reference. Also, one of the seat seams has separated. The shift knob and the steering wheel also have some wear as well, but again, for a 23 year old car, it is all very minimal. The rear hatch does not leak, and the rubber spoiler is in great condition with no cracks. It is soft and squishy as it should be. I had an oil leak out of the oil sender unit. I replaced the gasket and it does not leak anymore. I know of no other oil leaks. I do not know when the transmission fluid was last changed. When my timing belt was done, the mechanic indicated that the transmission fluid was still ok. To my knowledge, the alternator is original, although it is missing the fresh air pipe as indicated above. I have not changed the alternator. I have two sets of keys. The key that unlocks the doors also starts the cars and opens the hatch and unlocks the gas cap. The air conditioning system is not currently charged. When it was charged, it worked, but wasn't great. I have not replaced the clutch or flywheel since buying the car. The clutch feels solid to me, with no slipping in any gears. I have never had the turbocharger serviced due to the fact that it boosts at the proper BAR, as specified in the manual.
