Vehicle Detail
This is a 1970 Camaro restoration project or donor body. History: From what I understand about the car, it was stripped years ago so it could be used as a race car. However, it never made it to the track, and has been sitting for several years. Luckily, the car has not been cut up. The only things that have been cut are the hood and the center of the trunk pan. The car is a true 1970 Camaro. The trim tag is intact, and it indicates that the car had code 10 paint (Classic White) and code 715 interior (standard blue vinyl). It looks like the car was painted blue at some point, and the door jambs and trunk were also trimmed out in blue. The car was built in the 2nd week of May, 1970. The VIN # is 124870N506494, indicating that it was an 8 cylinder car that was the 6,494th Camaro built at the Norwood plant. Although I have removed the original door, it comes with the car, and the VIN # on the original sticker on the door matches the VIN # that is in the windshield. The person that I purchased the car from did not have the title to the car. According to him, the title was lost sometime after the car was stripped to be used as a race car. A title company such as Broadway Title could help attain a title for this car if the new owner desires one. If the car is to be used as a donor, a title is not needed. The Body: Overall, the body of this car is very solid. The rear frame rails, rocker panels, door jambs, rear inner wheelhouses, trunk drop offs and shock towers, roof and pillar posts are all in good condition. The rear inner wheelhouses and door jambs on this car are beautiful, as are both of the frame rails. This makes it a solid foundation for a restoration. The passengers side floor pan is in nice condition other than a 2 inch long, 1 inch wide hole near the toeboard. The hole looks like it was cut, it is not rusty. Both of the rear seat bottom sections are good. The drivers side floor has been patched, but it needs replacing. The trunk center needs replaced, since a hole was cut in it. The drop offs, however, are in excellent condition. The area around the rear window is not rusty, and the trunk does not leak when it rains. The front subframe is straight and does not look to have been involved in any accidents. The front sheetmetal is loosely bolted on to the car. At some point, the front sheetmetal has been off, and some of the original body panels were switched with panels from another car. All panels are original GM panels, but not necessarily original to this car. The hood has a hole cut in it, and the bracing was removed to make it lighter. The hood is toast and will need replaced. Likewise, the drivers side section of the front valance panel is dented. It may be fixable, but these are easy enough to find and replace, so I would just replace it. The front fenders are GM fenders that have the typical rust in the bottom section. I would patch these fenders before buying brand new Goodmarks ANYDAY. The GM fenders will always fit better. I put the red doors on the car. I removed the doors from a 1974 Camaro Type LT. The doors are solid. The glass and the regulators are good. I saved the original drivers side door. It still has the original body sticker on it with the VIN # that matches the VIN on the windshield of the car. The rear window is also in good condition. The quarter panels are not bad. The drivers side bottom section behind the wheel has bondo in it. A patch panel would fix it. The passengers side looks pretty solid. Not sure how much putty is in it, but it looks pretty good now. These look like original quarters. As I mentioned before, the door jamb section of both quarter panels looks great. The center section of the trunk floor needs replaced. This is pretty standard for a 2nd generation F Body restoration. The drivers side floor pan also needs replaced. Although it is not pictured, I do have the fuel tank for the car. Driveline/Mechanics: The Camaro has its original manual steering box and manual disk brakes. There is no motor or transmission. The rear end is a big 10 bolt, but I don't know anything else about it. The car was originally equipped with automatic transmission. The Bad: Missing parts, which may or may not be an issue, depending on what you plan to do with the car. All the wiring has been removed from the car. All of the interior has been removed. There are no inner wheel wells on the front end. The front windshield is cracked. No motor, no transmission, no title. In summary, this is a real 1970 Camaro with a solid "back half" that would make a solid foundation for a restoration or a solid donor car for someone trying to restore a Camaro with a rusty hull.
